The droid maxx quantum is rumored now. So I guess I was right about a 1080p version coming soon after it's release.

"Soon after it's release"? It's just a rumor, and there isn't even rumored information from a real source. The articles I can find don't even claim 1080p like you do - all they have is a name, and it's a name they probably can't even use (see LG Quantum). The only thing they have any semi-real information about is the Moto Xplay, which is a vastly different device from the Ultra/Maxx with a 6.3" screen. Don't count yourself right when there's zero information, especially not a release date. If the Quantum (or whatever it is) is real, it may not be out for another 6 months.

Could you point me to an article released within the last week that mentions 1080 on a DROID Ultra successor?

It's rumored as a Droid Ultra successor, so right now, it's too early to slap a "Maxx" suffix on it.

Anyway, phones will always be updated, it's to be expected. There are rumors of a lot of successors for many phones, but, like YAYTech said, it will not be released for some time, still.

Since it takes at least a year to develop new phone, I hope that Motorola is working on successors to the X/Ultra/Maxx/Mini. All of the OEMs are hard at work developing their next phones weeks before they release a new one. I'm sure that Apple started working on the iPhone 6 in parallel with the iPhone 5s the day that the iPhone 5 was done.

This. I would bet the mortgage that this is just very early rumblings of the 2014 Fall Droid lineup. We all know that Motorola will be the only "Droid" manufacturer from here on out and I think they will stick to a once a year lineup, just like many other flagship phones.

The "XPlay" phone is a whole different story. I, for one, don't think it would ever come to Verizon, nor would I have any interest in a phone that big.
