Droid Maxx won't connect to car BT

I just got a car (2016 Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium) with a BT enabled head unit, and my Droid Maxx (4.4.4, 24.21.7.obake-maxx_verizon.Verizon.en.US) won't reliably connect with the car.

If I turn BT off & on again on the phone before I get near the car, it will connect, and will continue to connect as I run errands (in & out of the car). It seems that some amount of time (several hours later, or overnight), it will again fail to make the BT connection. Also, if I forget, and start the car, sometimes the BT off/on will work, sometimes BT will fail to turn back on, and I have to restart the phone.

I also have problems connecting with my Jabra BT headset.

Any ideas?

I don't have a factory Subaru bt - I added third party units to my 3 cars. But, try this: unpair the phone from the car and remove the phone's setting from the car, too. Change the car's settings so the PIN number is 0000. Then pair again. See if that helps.

I'll probably give that a try this weekend, but my situation seems a little different. I have successfully made the pairing to my car, it's just that I need to restart BT on my phone before I turn on the car. If I do that, the phone & car will connect with 100% reliability.

The PIN on my unit already was 0000. I unpaired my phone, deleted it from the car, and re-paired it. It worked fine today, but there were no long duration separations. We'll see what happens tomorrow.
