Droid or Droid Eris? How did you make your decision?

Hey Guys, I'm having a hell of a time trying to decide which phone to get. I know there have been a couple other threads posing the same question but nothing since the phones have come out.

Droid:
Better specs
Bigger screen
2.0
Don't really care for keyboard, onscreen is okay to me
More people will buy this and it will be more likely to get modified and tweaked

Eris:
Sleek look
Sense UI

With 2.0 on Eris what will the difference be? Are there any functionality differences between the two? Can the Droid do things the Eris can't?

How did you guys decide?

i picked the droid for a few reasons:

better processor
better screen
option of physical keyboard (addmitedly, i use the soft keyboard a lot more often, but the hard keyboard is nice to have)
2.0 right now. (i am liking what 2.0 has to offer far more than having sense with 1.5, and i'm impatient, far too impatient to wait for HTC to release a compatible version of Sense)

and personally, i like how the droid looks, a little different, and SUPER solid in hand.

It was a close call for me i really liked the eris as well but settled on the droid..

Bigger Screen
Better Processor
The option to go with either KB even thou the slide out KB is set to the left a bit seems weird at first but im getting use to it..

As many have said , the droid is just all around a more powerful device, the screen is huge and sexy , and the ONLY thing i liked about the eris is sense UI , and the fast that we can eventually port that over to our droid is what made me go 100% droid.

Sooks, theres a name I recognize..lol. I didn't leave my bb, I added the droid to my services to see what it was all about. I think the droid feels better than the eris, imho

On that browser speed test video the guy noted the superiority of the modified HTC soft keyboard over the 2.0 soft keyboard. I tried a Sprint Hero's keyboard and didn't like that one. I've been holding out for a real keyboard but from reviews it won't compare even to my little BB Pearl keyboard. I haven't been to the Verizon store yet to try the Droid or the Eris yet. I'm waiting for the super early adopters to do us all a favor. thanks.

did the same thing :) , and yeah it just feels very sturdy and ready to work lol

I chose the Droid because of the much better screen, hard keyboard (which is nice to use when casually browsing etc), better OS, and better battery life. I would be interested in hearing real-life examples of the eris battery life, but from what I read the battery life was not nearly as strong as on the Droid. I easily made it through yesterday getting emails all day, using the browser, having gtalk on, widgets updating, etc...

I was on the fence after trying both of them. First time I used Sense and I immediately saw the appeal. And you know what? If I didn't peruse sites like this or BGR to learn the power and customization of Droid, I would've purchased Eris. Even in terms of physical builds, the Eris was nice, and the Droid was "un-ugly" lol. I don't know how else to put it. It's an unusual design and, the more I think about it, while very retro, its shocking amongst other handsets in the ecosystem.

Droid was the better choice. More bang for your buck. But like i was telling my friend last night (she has the Hero), Verizon was wise for dropping Eris with the Moto at the same time. Just on aesthetics alone, the Droid ain't for everyone.

I cant really speak for battery life because I only had the phone for a few hours but I can tell you that the phone itself in my experience with it was horrible. Within the first few hours of owning it I lost all service to the phone, could not connect to anything, got crazy error messages and then phone eventually crashed beyond a reboot. The verizon rep on the phone marked it as a DOA (dead on arrival) and she put it so I could trade it in for the Droid because I had already used the 30 trial with the S2.

The droid is 100 times better then the Eris as far as I can tell for the amount of time I tried making it work. Who needs 7 different home screens anyways?? 3 is plenty.

you can always add more home screens if you get something like aHome too...

i think the biggest things the eris has going for it are:
traditional design
thinner and lighter
senseUI
PRICE

:)

which makes it a really good upgrade from a featurephone for a more casual user who is starting to want more from their phone as the senseUI makes android more easily accessible to a new user than the vanilla OS

I like the look of the Droid. Its sleek sexy and I love the craddle. It is a geeks paradise... especially if you came from a Blackberry. It runs well, smooth, and doesnt freeze or crash easily (i have frozen it several times lol I had to work at it). Ichose the Droid... but I have to admit the more I play with the Eris the more I like it ( I spend a lot of time in Best Buy and VZW). I like how smooth and contoured it feels in your hand and I do like the 7 panel home screen. The Droid by far has the better browser, processor and well stats all the way around. But I think the Eris is the more user friendly of the 2. It definitely has more casual user appeal like Adiliyo said. I can definitely see the Eris outselling the Droid easily. Especially once Donut comes out for it.

You guys say you are getting great battery life with the droid? Can you tell me your secret? I have been able to maybe go a half a day before a re-charge and thats with moderate use. I did look into the battery usage log and it says that the screen was taking over 70% of the battery? Now I do NOT have the auto bright on and only have the brightness at 45% which is what I have been setting all my PDA phones for years now. Not much on the side of widgets... fb every 2 hours, tritter widget every 2 hours, stocks widget every hour. All say they are using no more than 3% of the battery. Does the screen really take that much juice??
