Hey I am new here (obviously). I am lucky to run into the option of getting a smart phone *upgrade is in a month.*
I am going to use the phone a lot for email and browsing, but also games.
So from what I understand the droid has a 600mhz processor (when 3d gaming), but has a dedicated gpu.

However I know the HTC incredible (it has the same hardware as the nexus one) has a much faster processor, but have heard mixed things about it's gpu core.

So if I was to game with things like quake, doom, as well as of course other 3d games and 2d games in the android marketplace which would be better.

Also if you know of any benchmarks for either device I would also like those too.

Thanks for any help you can give to my situation,

P.S. is the physical keyboard really a big advantage over the touch only interface for games, email, web surfing, and maybe even an emulator? (I dumped my own roms off lots of my snes cartridges so I am doing nothing illegal)

Droid is 550mhz with a PowerVR SGX GPU

Snapdragon is 1ghz and also has a dedicated GPU, it's an AMD z430 rebranded as an Adreno 200

The Droid is down-clocked to that speed, and also has a dedicated GPU

It's been proven that the Droids gpu is better, but the snapdragen has a better CPU core so if everyday snappyness(if that's a word) get the incredible if gaming is your thing look at the Droid. Thats just the beggining theirs the physical keyboard or on-screen etc big choice

Wow, what? Fail.

From what I understand aren't tithe incredible And nexus 1 two differentt phones? Isn't the nexus one coming out for Verizon this summer?

Yes they are different phone some of the specs are the same but the incredible is slightly higher specd

Yes, I realize this. The CPU is 550Mhz, it's an Arm Cortex A8, same as the iPhone 3GS which runs at 600mhz and from ARM the CPU is like a 1ghz or 1.1ghz. It's down clocked for battery life reasons.

The PowerVR is a dedicated GPU, just like the N1's AMD z430.

Sorta kinda dedicated. Its part of the CPU, the Droid's is a independent system last I checked.

So... in your opinion which is better.
I was hoping to have a device that can do all the smart phone stuff as well as gaming. I love physical keyboards, but from what I hear the droid's is terrible. Though depends what you consider terrible, I am used to an alias which isn't what I would call ideal. As well as keypad I hear is great for games, as touch screen controls are usually pretty bad for emu's and the sort.

Thanks again for your help,
Also do any of you experience lag with your droid running at stock speeds (I am well aware of rooting as well as OCing).

I love my droid but I will def be getting the Droid Incredible I'm pre ordering it on the 19th on verizonwireless.com I can't wait. But when I first got my droid and were running stock the lag really was not that bad. I mean of course rooting and OCing made it a lot faster but I honestly think it wasn't too laggy at all. I like how the droid has both keyboards I mean the physical is most def not the best keyboard out there but I got used to it pretty quickly. The touch screen keyboard is pretty good tho I find myself using that most the time.

So you love your droid yet your getting an incredible?
Why do you want to get a new phone then?

And if it is what it seems to me, then what about the incredible appealed more?

The only real downside of the droid I see might be the cpu *yet the gpu is a downside for the incredible* and the thickness and form factor.

People always want the next big thing. These are the same ones who will be switching from the Incredible or Nexus One to a 4.3" touchscreen that is bound to land on verizon.

if i was to get the incredible it would be only because of the Sense UI. everything else i can deal with with the droid. in your case i would either get the incredible or wait to see what else might be coming out this year because your going to be signing up for a 2 year contract so if you get the moto droid it will be outdated within 6 months. the incredible will have a little longer life time (maybe a year) before it get out dated. if you can hold out a few more months then i would. If Google's Nexus 2 is like the rumors make it out to be, then it will be an even better Motorola Droid. the choice is urs man, good luck though and i hope you happy with whichever device you get.

haha the phone that shall not be named on an Android forum

Sorta kinda dedicated. Its part of the CPU, the Droid's is a independent system last I checked.

In the Droid there's a chip made by TI called an OMAP 3430 which is a complete "system on a chip".

In the N1 there's a chip called the QSD8650 which is a complete "System on a chip".

They're both little black chips with different dedicated cores and components. It's not like a desktop where there's a processor going into a socket on the motherboard with a video card in an AGP slot, etc...

There's a cpu, memory, gpu, etc... all in this one little black chip. Same for the OMAP3430 in the Droid and the QSD8650 in the N1 (and anything else that says they have a "Snapdragon Processor" in it.

I prefer the Droid. Besides, the Incredible looks kinda ugly if you ask me. The Eris and Nexus One look way better.
