Hello All,

I did a pretty extensive search because Im almost positive this question must have been answered but I couldn't find anything.

I have a few issues with contact management on my Droid X. Does anyone know fixes for the following issues?

1) When manually linking Facebook contacts with Google Contacts it seems to randomly pick what the display name is. Some of my contacts display the Gmail contact name while some default to the Facebook name. Is this the end of the world? No but it's just annoying for someone who is obsessed with Digital organization.

2) Gmail Contact groups - I'm pretty sure that this isn't possible on the X due to a software glitch. Third party apps are annoying because I like to use the stock applications for things like this because of the integration with the OS. (Im a mac user)

3) Droid X contact Groups - Because I can't get the Gmail groups to sync I added a contact group on my droid. This worked well but every time I hit the contact button it automatically defaults to this group so I have to manually go to show all contacts. Is there any way to have the default of the Contact button go to All Contacts or Gmail Contacts.

Love this phone! Maybe Gingerbread fixes these issues. Probably not!

When I first got my Droid X, I had this same issue. I try to keep my Work related contacts with WK before their first name, just so I know... And when I linked a couple of their facebooks manually, it defaulted to there normal first and last name. I thought it was random because I couldn't find a setting or reason why it was changing. And not every contact did it... kinda annoying for sure.

I also have not found a solution to this problem, so if you do make sure you post up the answer. Good Luck

Just a comment on contacts in general...

Beware the Vz auto backup app that you activate when you first turn on the X. It will mess up your contacts beyond belief, linking old and deleted info to your Gmail contacts. The only solution: go to your Vz My Verizon site & delete all contacts from there. Your Gmail contacts will not be affected, other than to get rid of all the conflicting info/links.

I did a Factory Data Rest to NOT activate the Vz Backup app. However, I discovered the My Vz site will still accumulate contact data that needs to be deleted periodically - PITA.

Also, if you sync from Outlook to Gmail, check how your contacts' names are entered. I found many were incorrectly set up - for instance, most had the contact's names in the "middle name" category in Gmail. Ultimately, I use only Gmail for calendar, contacts and email. My Gmail fetches my other emails - a great convenience.

This may not address your original issues, but just so you know to beware of the Vz backup app and the contact list on the Vz My Verizon website.

At least in my case, I have disabled "froze" the VZ backup services and accounts because I am rooted and have TI backup pro. I only have my contacts saved to my gmail account, and none of them are actually in "phone contacts"
