Okay so sorry if this is long and drawn out... But I don't want anyone to think that I have have not been researching and trying to find my own answers. The DX is the first "real phone" I have every had, and I am a new to all of this... But I gave it a try... This is where I am at.

So I got the DX as my first Smart Phone. I learned about android not to long ago (August) and was really impressed. After having it for a little while my mind started to race about what the DX can really do. I learned about rooting, but was to nervous to do it because I was not comfortable because I am not phone savvy, and much of the language is new to me. Spending most of September researching and waiting for 2.2 to come out I Updated over the air...

In end of October I decided to take my first plunge with rooting and SU capabilities. I tried the easy root, and had no success. It would not just root. Finally I used DoRootForWindows.zip. With surprise it worked. I was super excited, and downloaded root explorer, CPU for root. Got rid of some of the bloatware that I was I hated Verizon from locking onto my Phone....

The I decided to try and install a Custom Rom Birdman's Fly X... I downloaded the Rom Manager--- Free Version--- (Didn't realize that I was supposed to get the paid), Downloaded bootstrap... And followed instructions... Except I didn't really understand what flashing was.....

This is where something went WRONG!!! Okay now I was freaking out phone went into recovery mode, didn't know what to do. Did a factory reset trying to get rid of everything.... I got it to reboot once.... Researched as to what I had to do to fix my situation... Not it working but my phone wouldn't activate... It just said Verizon doesn't want anything to do with you... Call to talk to some during our hours of operation... Scared of going through a day without my DX... Finally found something about reflashing the 2.2 from ROTOzip.com... downloaded but, still held back from flashing.

Couldn't get to Bootloader mode yet either messed around with recovery, mounted everything, and the phone wouldn't load past the (M) screen... Finally I figured out how to get to bootloader I wasted all my battery phone was to low for bootloader to run tried flashing multiple roms that were supposed to work with RSD Light, and nothing said flash failed, and received this error:

Critical Error
1337
501B

The ROM that I was trying to flash was incorrect. I had to use the method of splicing one of my chargers from the USB and hooking it to my battery, to get power once I learned how to use RSD Lite 4.7. I used the file . ZIP file titled the Gift for I believe the 2.2 .SBF?! (Let me know if this will pass the test) phone will be here Monday. .... Rotowiki.... And it worked. I got activated, and I have a new phone in the mail from Verizon... as we speak... No more SU, no more root.... I believe... I am running good but my Verizon battery is no longer being recognized. meaning no charging... It is real. I thought that I may have fried it from the splicing and I took it to Verizon they replaced it same problem...

Does anyone know what could have caused it and a Fix. I just want to have a factory reset phone to send back so my warranty is not broken. Honestly besides the charging I would keep the one I had... But they are sending me a new one...

Sorry so long... hope someone may have some insight into how to fix... and if I did the procedure right.

Here is my problem and is there a solution? Will Verizon know I did all of this... Is my warranty still good?

Rooting voids all warranties. Honestly, I am not above rooting at all. If one roots...accept all responsibility...it is not Verizons responsibility to make that right. Thank you for your honest post, but you lay out a very good reason that just because a one button root exist, or that rooting exist for your device period, that doesn't mean it will go that smooth. Technically, you blew your warranty. Can you de root and lie? Yes.

Any assistance you can offer.

I understand that... But I want to know if I am back to the point that the phone is factory restored... Will they know... I don't know anything I just saw my friends X, and it was great.... He had tweaks ... I know I got greedy. I shouldn't have tried the ROM won't do it again I am getting a new one in the mail... But I just want to know it will make it past any inspection... I know it is wrong... But on the same note (and I am not trying to justify my actions at all). Just want to go back to normal... Give it back to them... If it wasn't the battery issue, how would I know if I am back to normal... And is there a fix for the battery issue... Like I said I know it was my fault... I don't want to cover up my actions... But I was curious everyone kept telling me that the phone can do so much more than what they let you (without paying) I am mostly interested about wireless tethering without having to pay 30 per month... Its my fault but is there a fix.... Or something that will allow me to just get back to normal....

Its just the battery problem now nothing reads as as battery... wont let me charge....
Can I reformat for that...

How do I know I am unrooted?

What Does Your DX read on the Stock 2.2 about phone section...
Sorry. Don't mean to be a bother... I have to void it.... \

I accept that... I was just wondering if there was going to be a way to learn my lesson and move on. With this one I kinda just need a Get out of jail card free card. Really for me I was just trying to keep up with my uncle and his jail broken iphone... I am a big droid advocate I would never want to own a different phone... Thanks again....

you are good. The SU (super user) App is a give away that the device is rooted. I have heard enough stories that say Verizon doesn't run, or have time to run phones through that sort of scrutiny. From what I can tell, they flush, flash, and then check for problems. Peace of mind is getting the device de rooted. If the device is bricked though, chances are they will over look that because they want to flash the stock rom and then check the hardware. I could be wrong, and if anyone reading this had more insight, please share...

How do I know that the phone is officially Unrooted?

This is what is says in
"About Phone":

System Version:
Version.2.3.13.MB810.Verizon.en.US

Model Number
Droid X

Sigh.... As I was writing it the phone died....

Any help to why the Motorola battery is not registering as a Motorola battery... I got a new one from Motorola Today. So I know there is no short. should I load a different .sbf... As of now I can get into bootloader unless I resort back to the spliced USB method. Not enough power.... Ill try one more time.. Is there official Verizon Software out there? Did I fry the Micro USB?

The lesson here is don't root if you are a noob or if you are at uncomfortable with the process.

It's possible your phone was no good from the get go, don't trip, just enjoy your new phone and be glad Verizon is happy to assist you.
