Droid X refuses third party battery after Froyo 2.2 update

So I got two extra batteries and a charger to deal with the sad battery performance of the included battery. Carrying extras in my jacket seemed silly, but was at least a work-around that got me through a day.

But after updating to Froyo this morning the first thing the phone showed was a screen refusing to charge my battery (or even show the charge level) because it wasn't manufactured by Motorolla.

These batteries played nice with the phone for the past month in 2.1, so what's the issue here? Is this just Motorolla trying to make sure that you only buy from them.

Has anyone else had issues with 3rd party batteries and Froyo? Is there a work-around?

I haven't rooted my phone yet. Would that offer a solution?

Thanks!

My business partner and I bought 2 spare batteries for each of our phones for use at a trade show. We've seen the same problem. I suspect that 3rd party batteries eat into Motorola's after sales....
