Hey everyone,

Sorry for my newbness but I just had a couple of questions that you guys could hopefully help me out with. I installed that leaked froyo version way back when (the one that Motorola sent out cease and desist letters over) and now I'm pretty much stuck on it. My phone always tells me that it's up to date. I also rooted it and changed the build.prop file a while back to get better performance from my battery I believe. Now, I'm seeing all these gingerbread leaks and I'd love to upgrade.

So my first question is, what do I need to do to get a version of gingerbread on my phone. I'm fairly technical but not too versed in this.

Next, is there any way to keep all my apps? I know I've downloaded a bunch of apps that were "free for a day" or something like that and I'd hate to lose those. Another related question would be if I would lose all my progress in Angry Birds? Haha. This isn't as important.

Third, will I be able to keep root? (I think I read that there is a way to get root on the leaked gingerbreads).

Thank you so much in advance. I've been putting this off because I just didn't know what it would entail.

Also, you should be able to SBF to the OTA froyo and go from there. You would loose your apps and what not unless you use a backup app like Titanium.

Thanks for the replies guys. I ended up SBF to 2.1 and accepting the OTA upgrade to 340. I used Titanium backup so I've got all my apps backed up. Once I found out that official 596 Gingerbread would take another two+ weeks to come out for the x, and then having to wait for root for that, I just said forget it and upgraded to 588. Running pretty smoothly and I've got most of my apps all restored.
