My brother in law has a Fascinate so I have played around with one enough to get a general feel for it. The build quality of the Samsung vs. the Droid X was enough to make me know that I had made the right choice. That might be just me though...it's a nice phone overall though.

I see you use Liberty 1.5...what makes CM7 so desirable that you would want to switch phones just to get it? I am curious.

I have both and have used both. There are different pluses and minuses to each. Overall, honestly, I think it's a toss-up. A few random thoughts...

Lots of people seem to have a GPS issue with the Fascinate. I have never had a problem. Mine gets an accurate lock in <10 seconds and holds it even under tree cover. Performance is equal to the Droid X.

I like the capacitive buttons on the Fascinate better than the Droid X's physical clickies. I can navigate on the Fascinate with less effort and less worry about having a secure grip.

Outgoing audio may be a little better with the Droid X.

The continuing inability of VZW to provide a Froyo update annoys me. The biggest irony was when I went to the VZW website recently and got a big ! message on the screen saying it couldn't load because I didn't have Adobe Flash installed (because you need 2.2 or higher to install...duh, VZW).

The color balance on the two phones is very different. Video on the Fascinate is very saturated. The Droid X is more neutral, closer to actual color balance and more like what you'd see on an Apple product. I prefer that, but many people don't.

The Fascinate is just a little bit thinner and lighter. On paper, not much difference, but I carry my phone in my shirt breast pocket and the Droid X is a bigger/heavier payload carried that way.

At the end of the day, other than the Froyo issue (which you could fix by rooting), either is a very good choice. Spend some time at VZW trying both if you can.

actually i am running rubix 2.0 now... liberty has some issues , at least for me. and the biggest reason isnt necessarily cm7, but the fact that samsung phones go way beyond just installing a custom rom like with the droids... with a locked bootloader all we can do is flash liberty, apex, rubix, or wahtever rom. samsung you can flash custom roms, kernels, modems, ect... hence cm7. and i am convinced they have a little better hardware. humminbird processor > Ti processor, super amoled screen > lcd screen, ect..

yea it feels a little cheaper but only because it is lighter, which is a good thing if it is dropped. the heavier it is , the harder it falls.

people say there are gps issues with the fascinate, but some say they have never experienced them... just like some say droids have email issues, not sycing, and some like me have never experienced them..

i appreciate all the feedback , really though... but i think i will end up with a sammy

The VZW dual cover (silicone ring with smooth, hard plastic back) is a good choice for the SF and DX. The DX one seems to be available only in VZW stores. The SF version is available online and in stores. I have this on both phones and it has saved me many times.
