i am considering trading my droid x back for a samsung fascinate now that i am familar with rooting and roms.. plus froyo is out now. I know some of the pros and cons , but wanted to see what your guys thoughts were?

I had the d2 still sitting somewhere around the house (kids phone now) but to me this phone on ea28 was just as snappy as my d2 running fission. Now running SC 2.9 and their is no competition this phone flies. Like the lighter weight and thinner size and battery life is just much better. The camera sucked for me on the d2 this is much better. Honestly if I can get gb on this ill be happy until later this year it does what I want when I want with less bugs. As far as root their not in the same league you can do so much more with this. But that's my comparison to a d2

yea that is a pro of the samsung , not having a locked bootloader so having the ability to run custom kernels... hence CM7!!! but samsung is so slow with updates and froyo is still reall buggy from what i hear. however moto is slow with updates as well, not as slow, but also have the bootloader locked down and limit the rooting world. the Ti processor in the moto is in my opinion inferior to the hummingbird as well. i appreciate your advice! i think i am already certain of what to do... i may need some help at first though, never rooted a samsung and i know the process is completely different and i have no idea which rom to use... the guy i am tradin has it rooted already and sasid it is superclean 2.9.1 ( which seems to be popular) and froyo...

+1 I'm on SC 2.9.1 and this thing is awsome. Got rid of all VZ crapware and it is just a great phone. Developers making good progress on 2.3 - I'm betting before too long, we'll have a good reliable gb ROM as an option. Until then, I'm really satisfied with phone setup right now.

I have both and have used both. There are different pluses and minuses to each. Overall, honestly, I think it's a toss-up. A few random thoughts...

Lots of people seem to have a GPS issue with the Fascinate. I have never had a problem. Mine gets an accurate lock in <10 seconds and holds it even under tree cover. Performance is equal to the Droid X.

I like the capacitive buttons on the Fascinate better than the Droid X's physical clickies. I can navigate on the Fascinate with less effort and less worry about having a secure grip.

Outgoing audio may be a little better with the Droid X.

The continuing inability of VZW to provide a Froyo update annoys me. The biggest irony was when I went to the VZW website recently and got a big ! message on the screen saying it couldn't load because I didn't have Adobe Flash installed (because you need 2.2 or higher to install...duh, VZW).

The color balance on the two phones is very different. Video on the Fascinate is very saturated. The Droid X is more neutral, closer to actual color balance and more like what you'd see on an Apple product. I prefer that, but many people don't.

The Fascinate is just a little bit thinner and lighter. On paper, not much difference, but I carry my phone in my shirt breast pocket and the Droid X is a bigger/heavier payload carried that way.

At the end of the day, other than the Froyo issue (which you could fix by rooting), either is a very good choice. Spend some time at VZW trying both if you can.

Yeah Samsung is slow with updates but I put froyo directly on VZW head look at all the crap their trying to cram. Onto this phone. Rooting was to easy you can use z4 root or Odin to a pre rooted version of froyo. I did the latter of the two took less than 10 min and I had froyo clockworkmod and all. Signal and voice quality may be a plus with the d2 they were better but nowhere near a big enough advantage to keep me with Moto. Oh and GPS I've never had a problem with this phone locks quickly even did on ea28 shoot my wife was using shopkick on this while I tried on my d2 the fascinate pulled up both the location and info first

some really good thoughts, i appreciate them all guys. i am convinced that samsung does have better hardware than moto though, via the superamoled screen, hummingbird processor, and better camera quality even without the dual led flash. i am a loyal samsung customer in that i have a samsung bluetooth device, samsung plasma tv, samsung appliances, and have never been dissapointed. the main and only reason i switched back to the x was becasue i actually used flash often. and i was also a noob to rooting and didnt realize at the time the extent of the capabilities. i think as of 2pm today i will be back on the sammy

The #s suggest that the SF is a better games/entertainment platform than the DX, but I haven't got any feedback for you on that.

I think lots of people probably prefer the AMOLED screen; I strongly prefer the DX's screen...but if I didn't have both within arm's length I'm not sure I'd focus on it.

As I said, overall, both are very good choices.
