Droid X2 Backlight not working

A friend of mine has a Droid X2 that the backlight has stopped working on, does anyone know if replacing the LCD will fix the issue or is it another issue with the phone. The LCD is about $50, but looks very simple to do I just don't want her to spend the $50, me replace the LCD, and then still have an issue with the phone. Any insight would be appreciated.
