There is also an app called MotoTorch LED that also turns on the LED. It also has a widget and gives you the option to strobe the LED and also send out morse code messages with it. It's pretty cool. Free as well.

However, I'm glad Motorola came out with an app too because I assume that they know that the LED can stand up to this kind of use. Although I'm sure that this is a killer on battery life.

MotoTorch is a pretty good app. Don't see any need to try droidlight yet.

I had no idea about MotoTorch app. Just searched for it in the market and downloaded it. Very cool and practical for daily use at night.

Okay, after having MotoTorch for a day I have noticed that if you have it on for longer than 10 seconds it will suck your battery dry. It even makes the battery warm really quick. Maybe that's the LED's eating battery up?

Any battery LED app will eat the battery up. I took them off my phone.

I just used Mototorch to turn the led on (via the widget) and let it stay on for an hour. The power meter didnt even budge. So, its not the LED's that are draining power... its probably the screen (which is the hugest power suck on the device by far).

Use the widget instead of the application to turn the light on and off.
