Got my eyes on the s7, but heard a few people say, even with a case, the back of the phone cracked when dropped.:(

A lot of variables play into a phone cracking when it's dropped: the quality of the screen protector, the kind of case purchased, the angle of the drop, how far the phone fell, the surface onto which it fell...

So don't worry too much. Try to research good quality screen protectors and cases and exercise a normal amount of caution. Some eventual wear and tear is normal. But if you're a cautious person with your phones and you take care of them, I wouldn't worry too much about this. :)

Have I dropped my phone yet! I've not only dropped it a dozen times, I've thrown it, hurled it, tossed, flung, pitched, lobbed, launched and catapulted it! I'm pretty sure I've dropped/tossed it more in 2 months than I did my S5 in two years. It took a HARD (flat) face down drop on concrete the other day. I just knew the screen was going to be shattered. Not a crack, scratch or chip! I don't know why I can't keep the thing in my hand. I have a Spigen Hybrid case on it and a Zagg InvisibleShield screen cover. So yes, I've "dropped" it many times. And unless there is some internal bleeding I don't know about, it's perfectly fine :)

No damage using a Spigen Hybrid case which isn't super thick? It doesn't have much of a raised lip also so I guess it didn't have any rocks or pebbles on the concrete? My dad with his new S5 last year in a Best Buy Platinum holster case dropped his phone screen first from about 4 feet it went flying because he stumbled over something and there wasn't a scratch on the phone or the screen! I was shocked figuring when I picked his phone up the screen would be broke but it wasn't and those are not very protective cases.

Thinking about it it might be better with it falling screen first because the energy goes into the edges of the case versus dropping it on its back. Of course that is assuming it's a flat surface with no pebbles and a case that has a lip to it.

No damage at all. This is the same setup I used on my S5 for two years. When I sold it, it looked like it just came out of the box brand new. No, it's never been dropped on a rough terrain with rocks or pebbles. Unless something else comes along that is better, I'll be sticking with the combo for all my future phones. It's minimal with excellent protection.

I would not imagine the phone will fair well if uncased.. I never use a case as I hate them! I want to enjoy the device as created and think a case takes away form the look and feel..

I might get a skin for the back just because of the fingerprints and have a screen protector on the front but no case for me...

Of course if you are going to go caseless / naked, insurance is a MUST on a $700 naked phone.. I use square trade and for $5 a month I am covered!

To me the S7 is too small to hold with a minimal case. The Otterbox Defender feels a lot better in my hand and easier to use the phone.

Dropped mine Hard from about 4 feet onto a hardwood floor.

I was sure it would be a gonner, picked it up & was pleasantly surprised to see no damage. I did have an ultra slim TPU case on her with a cheap glass screen protector so that was probably just enough protection to avert a total disaster..
After that I picked up a unicorn bettle hybrid case & spigen tempered glass screen protector - not as bulky as an otterbox. Im retty happy with yhis setup.

Luckily haven't dropped mines yet. I had to take off my screen protector cuz it was lifting and peeling with every case I've used. I'm now using a speck case which I feel good about cuz the grip is awesome.

I used one for the last month with a Commuter series Otterbox on it and dropped it a handful of times. No cracks on the back or front yet.

I have dropped both my S7 and S7 Edge from various heights onto different surfaces with no damage to either.

I dropped mine this AM from about 3 feet and it fell face down onto wood floor.. I was pretty sure I'd pick it up to a shattered screen and ----> nothing.. Not a single mark anywhere to be found...

My lucky day or durable? I don't know just happy it survived..

I have dropped mine with a ringke hybrid fusion case and generic glass screen protector a few time... the glass screen protector has a few cracks in it(going to replace it soon) but the actual phone screen is fine.. due to dropping on a path with stones there are a few dents around the edges even with the case on... this would have been so much worse without the case.... finally I have a smallish scratch on the rear panel.... not sure how this has happened as the case is always on but it's rather annoying..

It's a great phone and looks lovely and is made from very nice material which is great... however as great as the glass front and back and aluminium/metal frame is it is prone to very easy damage. Aluminium dents extremely easy and glass scratches and cracks very easily you can protect it but with the phone being picked up, put down, in bags, in pockets, on tables, at the gym ect ect every single day I would say it's fairly common for a phone to have a few dents and scratches..

Mines feel off the bed earlier this morning onto our hardwood floor ........... something told me it was gonna fall just seconds prior to it happening and it did UGH ??!!

I was trying to feel for it before it fell but wasn't successful since uummmmmmm I was kinda busy ahem ahem.

Don't ask at least there was no damage that I could see on my phone and I had a huge sigh of relief to say the least yay !

What kind of case did you use? then you read reviews about people with Defenders dropping them and the screen not working.

Never had a phone that I didn't drop a few times. Never significantly damaged any phone by dropping. Always had some sort of inexpensive case. Got a rubbery case, no screen protector on my new (never dropped yet) S7. Don't like the flat glass screen protectors that don't go to the edge of the screen, and read so many bad reviews of the curved screen protectors. Getting a folio case with magnetic closure so a flap will protect the screen in case of a fall. The flap is inconvenient sometimes (used that type on my LG G3), but it's something else to hold on to.
EDIT: Folio case was a bad idea. More slippery than the rubbery case I had. Metal clasp on flap chewed into the leather within the hour of installing case, and sat precariously close to the screen. Sent case back, reinstalled rubbery case. Edge of rubber case extends past screen, may protect glass.
