Dropped Epic into a Lake

It was a nice day today and my GF asked if we could go to the lake and ride a paddle boat. I of course say yes and since I am on call at work I take my work phone, my Epic and my work laptop onto the paddle boat.
(mistake 1, should have left the Epic in the car)

I was wearing cargo shorts and had the Epic in the pocket closest to the water. (mistake number 2, should have had it in the pocket to the center of the boat)

Then as I start peddling fast I feel something slide out of my pocket and the bloop, and I look down to see the epic falling into the murky green lake, never to be seen again.

I could have tried to dive after it but I wouldn't have had a chance as much as that thing weighs.

Then I was like, It's ok I have a warranty through best buy. (Mistake number 3, warranty doesn't cover lost or stolen phones)

So after lots of math and determining if the cost of replacing it at the retail price was better than canceling my contact and going with the Samsung Vibrant on T-Mobile, I purchase the Epic again for $499 this time with the Sprint warranty that covers lost and stolen phone.

So that paddle boat ride cost $5 + $500 replacement = Epic Lesson

Brutal man... I dropped mine in a toilet a few days ago, but I had insurance. Sorry to hear about your loss! $500 out of pocket is nuts. :(

I feel for ya. My 3-week-old Droid 2 is resting peacefully on the bottom of Lake Superior.

Damn people like to drop there phones in to water for sure. well its good those people help companies sales numbers even more. Good luck to u and hope u learned from it?

I stay far away from any "services" from Best Buy, save yourself headache in the future. I have always had pretty good luck with the Sprint warranty.

Agreed. I get the total protection from Sprint but avoid Best Buy warranty plans for phones.

In regards to the best buy plan, since you never made use of it meaning you did not get a new phone etc.. you can get a pro-rated refund of the service, which I imagine since it's been about a month or so it will pretty much be a full refund.

Yea, the only good best buy plan is the product replacement plan on items <$200, you can exchange those for any reason you want, but you do have to have the original product to be exchanged lol. Otherwise it's basically an extended Manf. Warranty.
