Did the unbelievable, dropped it right out of my hand into the toilet.
Was able to grab it instantly and everything was still working but it started buzzing. I took the battery out and left it over night, put it back in and all seemed well but when I used it with external speaker it (the speaker) got extremely hot. I turned off the phone and left it till it cooled down and then turned it back on. Again, everything works, texting, camera, phone, music (when plugged in to a aux) but I have no external speaker. Phone vibrates but not a sound. I have thoroughly checked all the setting. My thoughts are it fried the external speaker, any thoughts? Can it be repaired/replaced?

First off just want to make sure you're in the right forum as you said you took out the battery (since on the evo lte it can be done but requires more work). Anyway, whether it's the evo lte or the evo 4g that you're talking about here you can get a replacement speaker for it. Just Google replacement parts for it.

Yes it can. i did one on mine already. i found a used one on ebay, i called HTC and they don't offer any parts. They offered to fix it if i sent it in but that could of taken 10-14 days. Its not hard to do , you need to pull the board and screen out of the frame but its not to bad.

Thanks for the replies, I might be on the wrong forum as my phone is a HTC Incredible 4G LTE. Not sure if the same answers apply but I did find a new replacement speaker for $10 w/instructions on how to change it. I am going to wait (hoping) that no other issues show up. Tonight the only way I could get the phone to shut off was to remove the battery but it turned on by the switch. All the money I saved over the years not buying warranties might get used on a new phone?

what a nightmare! Sorry this happened. When all else fails, you can always try the rice trick: pull the battery (not even going to attempt that on my EVO 4GLTE), get a decent size bowl and fill it with white rice, dry....not cooked (you'd be surprised). Bury the phone in the rice and put in a dry space, like a shelf or cupboard, for 24 hours. Rice is a desiccant and draws out moisture. Now this may not fix the speaker problem, does sound like you fried the circuit board, but could help with the power button issue. This doesn't always work, smartphones have some much more advanced components, but it's worth a try. After 24 hours, take it out, carefully use a few short bursts of canned air for any dust residue and put the battery back in and try it out.

Last night I put the phone on the charger with the back removed and left it open over night, this morning to power button works normal so maybe that is not going to be an issue. I did find a link to a speaker for $10 on internet (claims it is common and easy replacement). It would be worth a try if everything else continues to work. My concern is that the speaker got very hot before it quit completely, before it quit completely it worked with low volume and crackling static noise. The intense heat on the speaker leads me to believe that it fried something, is it possible that it would only be the speaker? I know zero about these things!

It's hard to say, personally I'd be surprised if it was just the part of the board regulating the speaker that got messed up rather than the whole board. I'd try the speaker replacement if you don't get any results from the rice trick.
