I got my note 2 a little bit over a month ago. I dropped it running naked and cracked the screen any suggestions? I have no insurance lol

IMO, this phone is worth getting the screen repaired. I don't know of anyone other than Samsung to do it, but others might know who can repair it for a decent price.

Yeah I know but thankfully I have a backup phone or else I would drive myself nuts. Are there any other alternatives? Would AT&T sell me the insurance over the phone? Lol

Would AT&T replace the phone if it had no insurance but it was covered in the 1 year manufacturers warranty for a defect. Like if the phone stopped reading SIM cards for some reason?

Yes, if they determined it was a manufacturing defect. However, damage is a whole other story and that won't be covered without insurance! I believe I read there's someone on eBay who does screen replacements for a reasonable price. Sorry, don't have that info though. Be aware if you have it done anywhere else but Samsung it will void your warranty. I just saw someone state they talked to a Samsung Tech who quoted them $178.00 for just the glass replacement with a 2 week turnaround time.

Because my Brothers galaxy note 2 just stopped reading a SIM card, neither his nor mine works. Would I be able to just take it into an AT&T store? Or should I just call customer service?

Cracked screen that was dropped and a SIM card reader that doesn't work? I think you will have to go through Samsung, let them replace the screen and then fix the card reader for free.

Your brother can have AT&T replace his phone add long as there is no water damage.

No 2 completely different phones and issues. But with the bad SIM card reader will AT&T replace it right away without having the insurance?

I guess ill ask. Why were you running naked? Seems bystanders would have an issue with that!!

Sent from my Note 2, disregard any grammatical errors.

I know it is two different issues. A warranty defect will be replaced right away during warranty period.

With yours, because the glass is broken, doesn't matter what else is messed up, even if it is defective. If you go through AT&T with it, you need insurance. That's why I said Samsung, they can determine any other issues that have nothing to do with the broken screen.

Okay I understand what you're saying now, so for his, the one that just has the sim problem they should replace it with no problems right? Do they usually just mail you one or do they send you to a repair place? Because I remember a whole who for my blackberry 9900 they sent me to a place where they just gave me another one, also if i have no insurance on it it won't matter correct?

I have forgotten at this point..it's it AT&T? If so there are Device Centers in some cities, if there is one in his area, he can go there and they will exchange it. Some of them do minor repairs also. Customer Care can tell you if there is one in your area. If not, they will send one out with a return label for the one he has. If it was not a refurb, he has a year, a refurb, 90 days.

I know T-Mobile operates the same way and I assume all companies do.

For the warranty time, a defect is covered and insurance isn't necessary.

If you do not have insurance through AT&T, and your phone is over 14 days old, then you don't even have to call AT&T, as they would not do anything for you. You have to call Samsung warranty service. The number is in the back of your owner's manual. Replacing a screen takes about 2 weeks. They will email you a shipping label. When I have to send in for warranty repair, it goes to the repair center in Taxes. I don't know how much they will charge you but I think around $150.

That is not true. AT&T gives a one year warranty on all new phones. I've dealt b with the issue myself more than once and AT&T will tell you that.

That will only cover defects, not damage. New phones have a year warranty with AT&T, refurbs have 90 days, though refurbs have a 1 year warranty with Samsung.

If you damage your phone the day you buy it, the damage is not covered by anyone.

That's not what they told me. One of my Note II power button stopped working. I called AT&T and she told me to call Samsung for repair. She even gave me the same number on the back of the Note II owner's manual to call. She said because it is over the 14 days free exchange period, the only free repair option is to use the manufacture warranty.

Then she didn't know what she was talking about. They will send you a "refurb" which could be one that was never, ever used or activated or was activated and kept for 14 days or was like yours, the button messed up, they fixed it and it became a refurb.

The 14 days only applies to getting another new one in the box from the store, not the warranty dept or warranty store. I was given 3 different ones myself in the last couple of months.

If you are wanting a NIB, then you only have 14 days. For a warranty issue, you have 1 year for a new phone, 90 days when you buy a refurb.
