ok so today my phone shutoff while i was in a call and now its dropping apps, i says i have skyfire and angrybirds downloaded in market but the app icons are gone and my signal is very speradic.. ideas?

Edit : there are other apps its dropping too..

I have had that happen also. I think it may have to do with the sd card acting as drive when plugged into the computer. I have been careful to eject the drive from the computer, telling the phone to turn off the USB storage before unplugging. I have not had an issue since.

im having the same problem i lost my Gmail and the angry bird icon goes away and the apps say some times can not open bla bla and i had to redownload astro again but i cant fix the Gmail problem i really need my Gmail app i downloaded gmail app im the market but it gives me error installation failed and also if i download the apk it wont install thru astro ether help me please im pulling my hair piece by piece lol thanks

You guys are actually having the issues stated over on this thread:

http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-optimus-s/43684-freezing-lock-ups-sd-card-issues.html

In summary: It seems they are finding that many SD cards that the phones are coming with are formatted improperly, and they are reformatting to FAT32 with success. Make sure you are always Safely Removing the phone from your computer before you unplug it.

These fixes never solved my problem (I was having the same issue) so I bought a new 4gb Class 4 Kington Micro SD card and have never had an issue. Some info that I gained from reading various different forums and bug reports on the issue (with other Android devices) have come to the conclusion that Class 2 SD cards have a tendency to cause problems with Android, and that Sandisk and Samsung cards also tend to have issues. This is all from a personal standpoint, and the formatting fix may solve your problem, this is just an alternate to try if you have not had luck formatting.

Man as soon as I reas the big post about.haven the sdcard problems and said ahhh I just going to wipe the phone and reformate the sdcard after I flash a new rom quick no sooner did I try to download the rom the phone comes up with you do not have sufficient memory clean out space I have a 16gb sdcard and my internal space I had ya more then enough and as soon as that happens I tryed to clean up something of the sdcard and I got errors you do not have write permitted to access these files and mega worse I went and fully wipe my phone and when the phone turned on the phone rejected the sdcard showing it to be dameged you my need to format this sdcard but all I did was repartition the sdcard and I had to download everything but it works atleast for now lol

so class 4 is pretty good, I thought class 6 or higher was recommended

It may be, everything I saw said at least class 4, and I'm using that with no issues. If you can find a Class 6 that isn't much more expensive, then I would say go for it, you can only see better performance from Apps on the card anyway.
