Dual boot animations?

I had the eb16 kernel on my fascinate which had the sideways android text. I then flashed ec10 which replaced the stock galaxy s and verizon text boot animations. Now the android text overlays the galaxy s and verizon logos!

Any way to get rid of the android text so that it is just the galaxy s and verizon logos?

I fixed it by flashing the EB01 super stock file mentioned at the bottom of the beginners rooting read me, then flashing straight to SC 2.9. Somewhere in the mix there's two conflicting files and I'm not sure where they came from but I had it for a while too. That build SUCKED by the way.

Hmmm. I am running EB01 deodexed/debloated and really like this rom.

When I had the EB16 kernel on, i only had the single android boot animation. I have not changed roms at all.

Maybe Adrynalyn will pop in here and know what file the "android" text boot animation is and where it is located so I can remove it and be left with stock.

I just thought of something!

I went from non-voodoo eb16 to voodoo ec10. I bet the file conversion has something to do with it!

The "sideways android text" is the default boot animation that runs when there is no boot animation found to play. The reason you get that over the stock boot animation is because your custom kernel has enabled custom boot animations in the form of bootanimation.zip instead of the stock format, so it is now looking for a file called bootanimation.zip which it does not find because you have no custom boot animation installed, and it plays the animation that i meant for cases when there is no animation in the system. However the stock animation has not been deleted (which is in a different format) and plays as well, hence the overlap.

To fix this, you need to do two things.
1) delete "bootani.qmg" from /system/media
2) flash a custom boot animation

1. So just to glean some clarification here, if we were to delete the boot animation in the non-zip format it would leave us with just the sideways android?

2. If we were to install a bootanimation.zip it would then replace the sideways android text correct? Would this leave us with the dual boot as well if we didn't remove the old format boot animation?

1) Yes
2) Yes, leaving bootani.qmg and flashing a custom boot animation will cause the two to overlap. You must delete bootani.qmg as well as flash a custom boot animation to stop the "dual boot animations".

I thought the old format boot animations were a folder full of .png files if I'm not mistaken. Could that be different from epic to fascinate?

Could you be thinking of the shutdown animation? That consists of loose .png files located in /system/media/video/shutdown

The shutdown animation was a folder of png files, but the boot animation has always been a single .qmg file for stock, and a .zip for modified.

This is one of the things I wish was handled better - I'm all for extending the system to allow for custom things like boot animations, but I wish it wouldn't break the stock parts in the process. I really don't care much to change my boot animation, but it looks pretty bad when there's these overlapping images now.

Crazy idea - if you included a bootanimation.zip with a few transparent image files, that would stop the sideways android animation from starting and allow the stock boot animation to play without being overlapped.

This thread is awesome! Sticky? Or maybe add a link to the how to threads?

I know I have had dual boot animations in the past and have always wondered how to remedy it.

Awesome bit of info, not really sticky material, but jaekar should definitely include this info with the themeing instructions. I'm gonna PM him.

Clever idea, but it doesn't seem to work, having a bootanimation.zip file present seems to override both the vertical ANDROID text and the stock samsungboot.qmg. I tried to locate the image for the vertical android, but couldn't find it anywhere. Was going to replace THAT with a transparent png.

Oh well, it's not a big deal. Ugly, but I don't reboot the phone THAT often!

Well then you'd have to create a custom boot animation with stock boot animation images. But I can't imagine you like the stock animation that much :p

Call me crazy, but I actually do like the stock animation... better than any other I've seen!!

I actually like the stock images also. Not to mention they play a little tune. I have followed the instructions in this thread and added a custom animation. Its better than 2 images fighting lol. But now it boots silently.

As was stated in a previous post, its only a bootup issue, and nobody reboots their phone constantly so its not that big of a deal.

Thanks to this thread I now have some custom boot and shutdown animations. Thanks guys.
