Dumb Screen Question

How is the screen's dimensions measured? Is the bend in the edge stealing some of the claimed size of 5.5"? To ask another way: If I could take the screen and iron it flat, would it then measure 5.5" or something greater? To ask a 3rd way: Would I have a equal or lesser UNDISTORTED PORTION of 7 Edge screen compaired to the whole screen of a completing 5.5" flat screen phone? Thanks. I have aging eyeballs and I'm trying to justify an impulse T-Mo Black Friday upgrade.

If you iron it flat it measures 5.5inches corner to corner. I just took a measuring tape onto my phone.

Diagonally it measures 5.5 inches
