Duplicate photos in Google Photos

For some reason right after I switched to Note from Pixel, pretty much all of my photos that date back like 6 months or so are now duplicated and all backed up by Google Photos. Does anyone know what's going on and why this happened? I do remember many years ago I had this exact issue but dont remember what I did to solve things.

I have this problem as well. It's not all my photos, but I do have duplicates. It started when I was using my iphone. I never figured out why. I just started deleting the duplicates as I saw them. I just hope I didn't mess anything up.

you are probably in a view showing both what is backed up to Google and what is saved to the device at the same time, have you an option/setting for view device only or Google only?

I don't have this issue of duplicate photos on Google photos after setting up the Note 10. How did you set up note 10? By any chance you copied over the photos from your last device to Note 10 and then Google photos thought to back them up as well once you restored Note 10.

I have had similar issue on my iPhone when my photos were backed up to iCloud library. When I set up new iPhone, iCloud photos/library used to download photos on the new phone and then Google photos thought they were new photos on device and started backing them again. I stopped using iCloud library in favor of only Google photos and OneDrive on all devices (Android/iOS) after which I haven't had much issue.

Well it is not that then
I just remember having same issue with a previous phone and whatever view I had it set to by mistake caused it

Nope, I didn't copy anything. Photos duplicate at random. Setup was regular too. Google employee said it's some bug, provided me with a fix, but their fix actually duplicated even more photos.

Very annoying, I had all my albums organized and now everything is filled with 100s of doubles

Ps I get it I can remove them manually but you have to be careful and not remove the ones that are shared. It's a huge pain in the ***.

Apparently Google forum is filled with this bug so it's not just me
