Duplicated Photos

Hi All,

I recently set up my Pixel 2 XL (which is going back due to random reboots, uneven screen, and a stuck pixel) and I noticed almost all of my photos in Google photos are duplicated.

The two images will be identical and have the same file name except when I look under info I can see this:

Photo 1: IMG_2017022_111133.jpg

Photo 2: /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Camera/IMG_2017022_111133.jpg

This did not happen on my Pixel XL, but now that I set everything up on the Pixel 2 XL, it seems to have duplicated all of my photos in the way shown above.

I have several thousand photos like this, so it's not something I can fix manually.

Anyone experience this before? Hoping it's an easy fix.

Thanks!

Huh, that's weird. Even if you transferred all of the locally saved photos from the old XL to the new 2 XL using Google's data transfer utility, Google Photos should've recognized that these photos were already backed up to the cloud.

I've noticed that on occasion, I'll see some duplicated images in my Google Photos cloud, but if I don't do anything and come back a while later, the duplicates are gone. Try waiting a day or two and see if they remain. If they do, then go to this help page and click Contact Us at the upper right: https://support.google.com/photos/?hl=en#topic=6128818
