E-mail tones can't switch them off

hi all i've been looking around online on how to turn of my email tones because i go into my email and then settings then priority sender settings then select ringtone i then apply silent but the damn thing still beeps when i receive a email notification could it have anything to do with the app smart volume which manges my awake and sleep profiles because i am at a loss

Let me guess: Yahoo? If so, it is in the app itself. I can't turn it off on my Tab 2, and I have seen it on many other posts for other devices. I have sent an email, but who knows when they will get around to fixing it....

You could also try to see if settings will disable auto sync, or some kind of auto check for emails. Then at least the phone won't beep unexpectedly.
