Android Central Question

Hi.

So I've had this phone for little over a year now and since about last summer I've had problems with early shutdowns where my phone has died when it reached about 40% (first it was 20, then 30, then seemed stable for a while at 40).

But last week when my phone died for the first time in a while the problems have gotten a lot worse. If I use Snapchat with 80% battery or lower it restarts my phone right away. When restarted, it tells me I have the same % as before but if I then open Snapchat again it restarts my phone again and tells me I have anywhere between 1% to 30% left (any number between there is essentially the same, though) and I have to charge it. If I let it run without using Snapchat it dies at around 65%.

I've been googling for a few days trying to fix it without luck. Most search results circle around similar problems with the Nexus 6, but nothing on Honor 8. I've been looking into getting a new battery which would cost me about $50 which I think might be worth a try (I don't have warranty left), but I also don't want to spend that kind of money if it doesn't solve the problem.

What do you all think? Would a new battery solve the problem or should I look at other solutions? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Android Central!

I'm sorry you are going through this - that is a very frustrating problem to have. It sounds like your battery is failing you. I don't use Snapchat much, but is it updated to its most recent software?

A new battery may help, for sure, but since your phone is over a year old, it is hard to say that the battery issue could purely be the battery itself (if that makes any sense). Have you noticed and freeze-ups, lagging, or anything else like that?

I would recommend contacting Honor Customer Support as well to see what their take on this would be. This could either be hardware- or software-related; so hopefully they may have a better idea of what it could be. But that may only be possible if and when someone takes a look at your phone.

My LG G3 had this same issue (battery being mean), so indefinitely understand your frustration. Please keep us posted.

If you are technically inclined then you can root and under clock the cpu which may help, or even shutting off the big cores. That would of course hinder performance though.

Have you got fixed your problem? Did you change your battery?
Mine phone honor 8 has done exactly same things.
