Earphone remote button not responding in default music player app

My Klipsch Image S4A Headphones for Android no longer work on ICS on this phone. They use to work perfectly on Gingerbread.

The earphones provided by Samsung are good for volume control but clicking on the remote button does not pause/play the song. I've tried PlayerPro and it doesn't work there either. I think the click itself is not being registered by the OS.

Any suggestions on how to enable this functionality? Do any earphones out there have support for button clicks on the remote for S3

Disabling it fixed the issue
