:(First off...I would like to say that I really wanted this to be the phone to keep....and I really like the size of it, the display is fantastic, and the pure google is just the ticket. It's the perfect looking phone.

Problem is: well there are 2 problems.....

1) Call someone, turn the speaker on and turn the volume up. set the phone down. Now begin a conversation. The person you are speaking with will very quickly tell you there is a terrible echo. I had used the speaker feature yesterday for the first time and my brother immediately said something. I took it off speaker and never gave it another thought. Today, I called someone else, and used the speaker...and sure enough...they complained about the echo. "it's really bad" I was told. So I googled it and found that others have had the same experience. They found that taking the back off the phone eliminated the problem...so I did the same...and sure enough...the echo went away. But really....that coupled with the slow speeds, disconnects, and no 4g in the house (I am in a 4g area)....and guess what, the phone is going back tomorrow. I'm not thrilled about taking it back, but truthfully, there are just to many "deal breakers" with the Nexus S 4g. Regardless of how good the screen looks, or how much I like the pure android experience, the fact that I can't use it as a phone in speaker mode, and the internet feature is dog slow if and when I get a connection...well....I am sad to say...it has to go.

Lol, like an HTC phone will be any better considering the numerous problems the T-bolt is having.

The EVO3D is a different build and has a different aesthetic than the t-bolt. I doubt there will be a major echo or problem like this.

I would not go with a TB. The problems regarding that phone are overwhelming. I would even stay with the Nexus S if the data connection was better (radio), but as it is...when I am in the house, the only real connection I can get is if I wifi to my home carrier for the internet. And again....I'm in a 4g area. My connection speeds vary between 20k and 350k at home. When I was downtown last week, I had to exit any buildings to get a signal for internet...again...a 4g area. Not really interested in a 3D phone....but then again...if it works...I just might have to consider it and consider the 3D as a bonus.

I would like a phone that offers 4g speeds with a good, low power screen (Samsung). Hell, I can even live with the bloatware at this point. But, I want a 4g phone with fast internet speeds that I can also talk on. Just like they all promise...and for what you have to pay each month, it's really not that much to ask. Just visit Europe, see what real wireless service is like. What are we...a third world country?

I tried a simple fix to remedy this issue. What I came up with was using a thin padding with of course a adhesive back. Basically making the plastic backing more sturdy and less prone to vibration. At least for now the issue has gone away. I paid maybe a couple bucks at Home Depot for this type of stuff. It's basically a thin layer of foam with a adhesive on the back.

I haven't encountered this problem yet but I have only used speaker phone once. I'll test it out tomorrow to see if I can recreate this problem.

Lets not forget the Evo 4G launch problems like the screens falling off, SD card failing to read or write, grounding issue where you couldnt set the phone down on anything and use it, radio problems and the 20fps glitch that needed an OTA fix. The phone was a POS at launch, I had one. It took 3 months for it to all be sorted out. Makes the Nexus S problems look like nothing. I am sure the 3D will have a ton of issues as well.

Having same problem as well, anyone I call with speaker says it echo's very badly.

I hope your rite.. I blindly ordered one to replace my broken shift, I'm in Philly so I'm gonna check the 4G Speed and report back to you guys on Tues

Yes Evo had **** load of problems when it came out, most of them were fixed with updates. Its bound to happen with any phone that gets released. People keep pointing to how their evo just works now and forgetting how many updates were issued to fix various issues. Its pretty simple though, If you don't like it, return it and get something else.

I don't have most of the problems listed in the threads personally and my phone works fine.

What exactly did you do? I want to try it.

Just what I said.. Put some thin foam on the battery cover on the inside to make it more solid and less prone to vibration which can cause echo.

I'm gonna try that. If it helps like you said, then I'll be able to keep the Nexus. Thank you

Perhaps what this "fix" is doing is rather than stopping vibrations, it is stopping sound from travelling between the battery cover and the battery to where maybe it is getting picked up somehow. Regardless, this will be great if it works, should be an easy fix.

So haven't actually used the speaker phone on mine yet so just tested it out and the person on the other end did not report an echo. However one thing I thought of, I have a case on my phone (the incipio feather) which might be applying a little bit of pressure to the battery cover. Are others that notice the echo using a case or not?

I'm using the gel case from sprint and I formerly had the hard case with clip from them. Echoed with both and with no case.
