ED05 releases - general question about updates

Verizon just released ED05 for the Fascinate which I've installed.

I've read in some places, that after an 'update' installation in Android, its a good idea
to do a Factory data reset. Clears out possibly problematic stuff.

Is there any truth to that?

Or, is it better to just use phone, if no issues, no problems.
But, should issue(s) arise, then first thing to do would be the factory reset ?

Thanks.

I just updated to ED05 too. I usually just use the phone after a software update and don't do a factory reset. If there are issues after the update doing a factory reset is probably one of the first things to try.

My phone hasn't even updated to ed04 yet. My build number shows eb01. How can I upgrade to ed05? Checking for update shows none available.

EB01 was never an official release, so you won't be able to update from it. You will have to flash back to a stock build before you can OTA

So is this just a maintenance update or new system upgrade?

Maintenance release. Like Kevin said, supposed to address the missed calls issue. But as has been documented by people getting a different phone to replace the Fascinate for the missed calls issue, Verizon is telling people Samsung has recently admitted they don't think a software upgrade will fix the problem. This is why they were willing to replace the Fascinate with the Charge with no extra cost.

Like Kevin said, EB01 was not an official release, so your phone will not receive the OTA because the system is recognizing you are not on an official build. Flash this DL09 file in ODIN, then after your phone boots up check for updates and you phone will probably update to EA28 first then likely directly to ED05

Make sure you use the PDA button in ODIN.

I was told last night that they were replacing the Fascinate with the Charge because they ran out of reman Fascinates, and Samsung approved a short term Charge replacement. They have the reman Fascinates now and won't offer up a Charge ... I tried (even though I'm not in a 4G area).

Could someone who has received the update report on what the version numbers are. I'm curious if they match the version I Odin'd last night. The Odin version numbers are:

Hardware: I500.04
Model: SCH-I500
Firmware: 2.2.2
Baseband: S:I500.04 V.ED05
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: SCHI-I500.ED05

The Fascinate has been discontinued.... so I am not sure what you mean by they "ran out" and now they "have the remaining"

LandShark was correct.... they decided to do the promotional replacement because they pretty much know the ED05 update isn't going to do much better than ED04.

To me... it sounds like their way of covering their own butts now and can tell customers that are claiming the missed call issue that the new update will fix it and that a replacement isn't needed

So...hold up...if I just downloaded this update and I call tomorrow about a possible swap...they won't do it because of the update???

I hope that isn't the case because I am rather tired of not receiving phone calls.

with all this missed calls talk, should i not get my gf a used Fascinate??

My wife and I both have this phone. I really didn't notice the missed call thing until ED04. I asked my wife and she hasn't noticed any missed calls. To be honest she is a text fiend and doesn't make a lot of calls.

I think he means they ran out of remanufactured or refurbished Fascinates and now they have some in stock.

They will probably do a swap, but now you will probably only be able to get another Fascinate.

yep... it looks like they are discontinuing the promotional replacement for the Fascinate due to the ED05 update.

Shark... did you order a replacement or are you sticking with the Fascinate?
