ED05 releases - general question about updates

yep... it looks like they are discontinuing the promotional replacement for the Fascinate due to the ED05 update.

Shark... did you order a replacement or are you sticking with the Fascinate?

My Charge was delivered the day the ED05 update came out and they apparently discontinued the DX2, Dinc2, Charge swaps. I was having too many missed calls and voicemails with no missed call listed. I still have the spare Fassy I bought off Ebay, so I can still use that one for troubleshooting and making ODIN packages. So I am not going anywhere and will be right here in the best forum around to help everyone I can.

Same boat as me... I got my charge just yesterday... just in time I think. No spare Fascinate for me, so its a bit bittersweet to leave this forum. However, I will still frequent this forum often to try and pay back all the help I have received in the past with any advice or help I can give.

Good to know you will be just as helpful in the Charge forums as well.

Thanks for all your guidance when I was still on the Fascinate.

Landshark,

Are you going to make a ODIN package for ED05 that is stock but rooted?

Robin

Glad to see some of you guys are sticking around with the Fascinate -- you're my gurus! :-)

I almost did the swap the other day -- I have a few missed calls, wonky GPS, etc. -- but I decided that I really like this phone, especially in terms of form factor, and I'd rather noodle around with it than have to start with something new right now. (And, no matter how good a phone is, there's always something...)

Anyway...on ED05, has anyone noticed any change in battery life since EA28 (or whatever the last official OTA update was)? My battery life has been awful since I went to that, I've been on ED05 for only a day, so I can't tell too much yet.

As far as radios... I must say that EC09 was always the most reliable for me. Tried ED04... was ok. Was on ED05 leak for a few days and hated it. But thats just my experience

The best radio for me was the one in the Gingerbread leak -- more bars, stronger signal, etc. Even the GPS seemed faster locking and more sensitive.

But, I gave up when it fried my SD card. :-(

I will see what I can do. No guarantees. I've always used pre-rooted ROMs when making the ODIN packages. Not sure if it will work the same way if I flash it to the phone, then root it, then create the ODIN. You do realize you can root in less than five minutes if you follow my instructions here:

Flash CWM-all in ODIN, boot directly to CWM by holding volume +, volume -, and power buttons and letting go of all three as soon as the samsung logo flashes for the second time. Then flash the su + busybox file in CWM. Done, rooted properly.

CWM-all --> Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

su + busybox --> http://adrynalyne.us/files/odin/su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip

Then after that, you can ODIN CWM 3 to have the current proper CWM

CWM 3 --> http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36791/CWM3_Voodoo.tar.md5

Thanks! I'm going to try that after I get home this weekend. As usual I just have to screw up my courage (smile)!

After doing this ED05 Odin and re-rooting, you have to flash a non-stock kernel to keep from going back to stock recovery after rebooting, correct?

Yes, you need to flash a custom kernel in order for CWM to stick

Did ed05 fix the call issues? I got my charge friday and have to send my fassy back tomoroow, but am still leaning towards the fassy. The charge is heavy and the camera is not as good as the fascinates.
