Edit Auto-Correct

When I swipe the keyboard for the word "and" the phone almost always auto-corrects the work to "andrew" (my name). It's quite annoying. I'm finding posts on how to turn auto-correct on and off, but not how to simply edit an erroneous entry. How can I get the phone to stop auto-correcting "and" to "andrew"?

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

You can try long pressing on the word andrew and remove it from the learned words. See if that might help.

Thank you. I just opened the Memo app' and tried entering "and". It never auto-corrected to "andrew". However, it does it in both Facebook Messenger and Messages. A long press gives me several options, but none of them provide the option to edit learned words. I'm still stuck.

It sucks that there has to be a work-around, but how about:
Settings>(search) Personal dictionary>Personal dictionary>"+"> Type "and" (minus the quotes" in both text fields.
I'm not positive if that will override it, but there's a chance.
Good luck!

Thank you. Earlier I found what I'm showing below by searching for "Spelling Correction". Both get me to the same place.

Setting > (search) Personal dictionary > which brings me to "Language and Input". I have the following choices. Nowhere can I find a place to enter a "+" or "-". I'm tempted to try "Reset", but I'm not sure of the impact.

  • Keyboards
    • Virtual keyboard
      • Samsung keyboard

I usually try to help people fix the app in question and not tell them to just use another app.

However, in this particular instance, I am going to suggest that you try either Gboard or SwiftKey. In addition to much more functionality the prediction is better by far. It is subjective, but I like SwiftKey.

If you use either of these keyboards your existing problem will go away. It is up to you, but that is my recommendation.

Thank you. I'll install SwiftKey and report back. I used SwiftKey back when I had a Note 3. Still, it seems odd that the problem just appeared recently and there's no apparent way to make it stop.

Your welcomeツ I am not sure what's going on either. Please come back and let me/us know how SwiftKey is working for you.
