So I'm writing this post for a friend that just picked up a virgin mobile op elite. He has only had it for a week and its starting to freak out. Its freezing, rebooting. and basically not working. Does anyone have any in sight with this entry level phone? He said he is either going to root it or take it back. This is his first android and he is not impressed.

I've had mine for almost 4 weeks and haven't had any issues with that. Some people on Howard Forums had some issues with overheating and rebooting, and I think I remember reading someone took theirs back and exchanged it for a new one that didn't have the issue. I love mine coming from the OV. It runs great and does everything I need it to without freaking out and rebooting. GPS locks on fast and turn by turn directions are smooth. Hopefully your friend can still exchange it.

My elite is a decent phone for $130, BUT virgin mobile has been frustrating as far as coverage goes. Very bad data speeds mainly. I had an optimus S previously and it surely did better on 3g. My elite does get rather hot while talking more than 5 minutes, but while on wifi it flies and leaves my old opti in the dust. Overall buyers remorse until rooted and ROM'd.....:-\

How to root (note you need your MSL which is a very difficult to get item unless you call in)
[Exclusive] How To Root The Virgin Mobile LG Optimus Elite

As for the overheating definitely a hardware issue and your friend's is likely a lemon. Mine runs quite cool for the most part and only gets hot if I do stuff like put it under pillows and charge the phone. Obviously that is not done on purpose. The crashing and freezing is DEFINITELY a hardware issue so get it returned asap.

As far as the phone goes, I love it. Absolutely no buyers remorse here especially with the grandfathered plan but it's a helluva challenging phone to unlock and develop on. Thankfully the optimus V taught me a few tricks and I have yet to brick the phone *knock on wood*

Should I trade in my LG Optimus Elite for the HTC evo 4g

Sorry Denny I was looking at the wrong specs. The HTC Evo V 4g IS the better phone with the S3 Dual-Core, 1.2 GHz Qualcomm MSM8660 processor.
HTC Evo 3D - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

However it does have freezing issues for some customers so if you want to avoid that trade in a new phone either way.

For all intents and purposes the HTC evo should have an older cpu than the optimus elite (S1 vs S2) and imo I feel that the Optimus elite is a much better price range and stability (the HTC evo has it's own set of problems if you look on VM reviews)

I think so long as you can get a non lemon you'll be happy with the elite.

Its personal preference to me really. IF you get good wimax coverage, or are lucky enough to get a decent sprint 3g connection, it's probably a good deal. I'm ditching virgin mobile simply because their customer service blows. I also have had THE WORST experience with my elite and virgin data speeds. Basically non existent on 3g and the phones performance due to it.

That makes sense. but I believe he's asking what is the better phone? Would you consider a HTC One V a better phone than the Elite? All I know is that it has a litttle bigger screen, No NFC, BUt you have ICS so thats a good thing. I think you will have a better experience with this phone.

There are none yet. They are still trying to get a recovery working for it. Be patient it will happen it's just a new phone without a ton of development just yet.

Yes its a faulty phone. Awesome specs and when it works its an amazing phone.
But Ive had for a month and a half and DAILY like hourly have to battery pull. Ive had to wipe it and start fresh SEVERAL times.
Avoid this phone. Its more trouble than its worth. If I had a gun Id shoot mine.
ARGH!!! 100 dollars WASTED!!!
