Email (and other) notifications

I am on ATT with 5.0. This just started happening this AM. Used to be, when the phone was "resting," if I would get an audible email (or other) notification, I would hit the home button to turn on the lock screen and there would be icons at the top left showing me what notifications were there. I would then swipe down from the top and they would show (in a white box) over the wallpaper. Now what happens is, when I get the notification, I turn on the screen and the white box is already on the screen. If I hit "clear," the notice goes away, but the white box saying my WiFi is on stays there. If I swipe on it, it goes away, but the phone "wakes up" (unlocks). I haven't changed any settings. What am I missing?

What you're describing sounds like normal behavior of the lockscreen on Lollipop. Are you saying that this wasn't happening before, even while on Lollipop?

Is your screenlock set to Swipe, or do you have a password/PIN set up?

Lockscreen is set to SWIPE. Maybe I had a little too much caffeine this AM, but I could swear that when I got the notification sound, I would turn on to the lock screen, and in order to see what the notification was (aside from the icon at the top), I would have to swipe down, then the box would pop up. I could then swipe back up, and the box would disappear. Now, when I swipe up, it unlocks the phone (or, if I swipe side-to-side, the mail goes away and the screen stays locked). But the WiFi thing stays there. So you're saying that's the way it's always been? Should I call a shrink? lol

Swiping back up on my Nexus 5 unlocks, it doesn't return me to the lockscreen. That's because I have Smart Lock turned on. If it were off, then I would guess swiping back up would prompt me to enter my unlock pattern.

The wi-fi notification being persistent might be a Samsung thing.

I was thinking that perhaps a GMail update was the reason, but it seems the whole Notification panel ithing s screwed up. It no longer swipes all the way down. Used to show Google+ items, but no longer does. I was going to stroll down to AT&T and ask if anyone else was reporting any unusual behavior, but being a holiday weekend, I figured I'd wait til Tuesday and see if any of this works itself out. Plus, this forum usually has far more info than either ATT or Samsung. Maybe others with a problem will respond here.
UPDATE: Doing a search, I found a thread here on the forums that seems to cover what I;m talking a about. I don't know if this forum allows links to its other threads, but it's under the 5.0.1 threads, which is odd because I don't have the 5.0.1 build. I'm on 5.0, but maybe there was some kind of background update that did this.

To link a thread, just copy the URL, then paste it into your post.

An update to the Gmail app wouldn't affect how the lockscreen notifications appear. It sounds to me like you're getting used to how lockscreen notifications appear on Lollipop, compared to KitKat--is that about right?

To see all notifications available on a lockscreen, first swipe down on the lockscreen to expand it completely. Then scroll up and down using your finger to see all notifications. Scroll slowly and don't fling your finger up, or else the phone will think you're trying to unlock the phone.

You are correct. I finally found a CNET site that listed all the 5.0 changes and sure enough....well, at least it wasn't just me.
Thanks for your help, as usual.
