Email & Calendar NOT stand-alone?

Why work email and calendar only with the smartphone (Galaxy) and not stand-alone with the Watch alone?

You can compose email and send (and reply) on the Gear S without the smartphone. The calendar does not work without the smartphone. Just shows your schedule. Setting calendar appts. with S Voice is not supported either. You can buy a third party app that will, however.
