When using the stock email application and receive a email on the lockscreen it does not show the content of the email instead says content hidden. I have gone into the notification settings of the mail app and ensured the hide content on the lockscreen is not selected. Any ideas anyone?

Something to consider is Samsung likes burying settings in more than one location for some features. Among a couple of other scenarios it would be worth checking in Settings > Applications > Application Manager > scroll down and tap the Email app > under Notifications make sure the "Hide all" options are turned off.
There's also a system-wide setting in Settings > Lock screen and security > Notifications on Lock Screen.

Here's a related forum thread that presents several steps you can try.
