Hey everybody, I am kind of new to the Android Central forums here, but not new to The Smartphone Experts Network. I've had my Palm Pre (-) with sprint since launch day on 6-6-09, but with confirmations that the Pre3 will not be coming to sprint, I went out and bought a 3VO last night. I love the phone, but, I am a little troubled by the email...

On both my previous Pre, and my 3VO, I have several accounts. Gmail, MobileMe, Yahoo, University email, and my work email. All of them except for the last one are IMAP, but the last is EAS. On my Pre, there was an option under advanced settings in the mail app that let my emails appear as they are received. No matter what account I was emailed on, I got the email as soon as I would if I had webmail running on my desktop.

Now, I only have that functionality with my EAS email. is that a limitation of Android? or Did I configure something wrong?

Please help!

POP and IMAP on the stock email client are not push services.
For me if its Gmail i use the gmail app, that gets my mail pushed to my device as soon as it hits the server.
Yahoo mail for Android does the same thing. It pushed the mail to your device as soon as it hits the servers.
For my work i use the stock. Its EAS and another work one is IMAP that i have set for 15 minutes.

I used to think IMAP was push but i guess i was wrong.

I just posted a new topic today about email not syncing like it should. I used to have a Pre too. A year ago I got the Evo 4G and it is an awesome phone. I usually upgrade each year, so I recently got the Evo 3D. Email on my 4G worked great. Not so much with the 3D. My email accounts are not syncing often as scheduled. Am using the stock app. Could be a Sprint issue but could be the phone too. Sprint says there isn't a problem with email but I expected that reply.

Did you check the settings? Settings>Accounts & Sync. Both Background data and Auto-sync should be checked. Under Manage Accounts you should see all of your email accounts listed with a green circle. Then check each email account's settings. Open email account>Menu>More>Settings>Send & Receive. You can set your download time, etc. Auto download message should be checked. I don't delete emails from server so I have those functions unchecked. Check Notification settings if you want to be notified. Hope this helps.

With the Yahoo app is there a way have the mail not pushed instantly? IE, have it updated at certain intervals or when you manually open the app?

Well I checked, and all my email accounts are push enabled IMAP. I also double checked, and the Pre mail client supports push for IMAP , and does not notify of mail through the synergy servers. Knowing this, and looking at IAmSixNine's post, I see why It isn't working how I want.

Wikipedia says K-9 Mail will give me push email. anybody have any luck with that app or know of a better one?

Apparently, if you just use yahoo through the stock mail app, you it shouldn't push. or you can change it to any time period, or manual if you want.

Are Yahoo and the stock app getting along now? When I set them up a month ago, Yahoo wasn't pushing automatically, thus the switch to the app. Maybe they've resolved this issue.

I am not having a problem with any of them.
Several email accounts with gmail, 2 with the yahoo mail for android, and 1 exchange and 1 impa with the stock one. All three of them seem to be working just fine for me.

As far as telling the yahoo mail app to check when its launched. I think you turn off notificatoins, then each time you launch it tell it to check now. Thats about as manual as its going to get for that app.

I use K-9 for my AKO account and it works just fine. I don't have it set for push,(not sure I can with AKO), but there are several polling intervals to choose from. no bugs that I've discovered (yet, knock on wood), though navigating through the settings do get thigns done is a bit, ummm, confusing.
