Email notifications based on sender or subject

Is it possible to have different notification sounds based upon email sender or subject, sort of like ringtones based upon caller? My business email account receives both automated receipts from customer purchases and emails requesting user support. It would be really helpful if I could set different tones for each type of message. Perhaps if I setup a dummy account and forward one set through there?

That is an interesting idea. I'd also like to see the Gmail app on the homescreen have a number of how many unread emails await inside, much like the counter on the Messages app.

I would think this could be done in Tasker but I don't think it can be done just on the phone.

I have a Tasker profile that flashes my wife's picture when I receive a text from her (full disclosure - it's a profile someone else developed and I find very useful).

I'm not real good at Tasker - can set some basic profiles and tasks - I'll try something later tonight if I get time.

Thanks for the idea, I just checked Tasker out, but while it can do this for txts, I don't see a similar option for emails. I may be able to have the incoming email generate an sms if that is the only way. Will have to keep looking.

I haven't figured it out in Tasker yet but Tasker has a built-in variable "email from".

The variable is there so I think it's doable.

The email from variable works only with K9, which I don't use so I can't test this profile.

Context
State > Variable Value
%EFROM matches name@domain.com or First Last

Task
Notification Sound set to Your Ringtone

Again, I don't use K9 so I can't fully test this profile. I'm not sure if the %EFROM variable is the email address or the user name. I think it's name@domain though.

Hope you're able to find the solution.

There is a 3rd party app called eNotify that provides this exact capability. It lets you play different sounds based on the sender, subject and many other fields. There is a free lite version if you want to check it out...Cheers.
