Can't believe it's taken so long for me to figure this out, but there is NO SPELLCHECK when sending an email. WTF? Has anyone found any third party apps that will do this? I found some spell checkers, but they don't appear to work within the body of an email.

When I type with the virtual keyboard the word suggestion is there. You can spell check as you type.
Don't know if this helps

WTF is right. No way can I type on that keyboard without an email spell check. Bye Bye Droid.

It checks as you spell. I wonder if down the road they can somehow implement a spell checker.

How is this that big of a deal? You can check as you type. I guess if you use this phone for work and you need an email error free, than that's different.

Agreed that this isn't a deal breaker. Also agreed that it would be nice to have the option of a spell check. It's not exactly advanced technology. I'm sure we'll get one implemented eventually. :)

No way to have it check while using the physical keyboard, is there? My physical keyboard doesn't display the suggested word, or proper spelling, or anything! So I remain WTF?

With the virtual keyboard it does suggest words for you, but with the physical keyboard is where spell check is really needed with it being so easy to accidently press an extra button.

Spell Check

This is unacceptable - I use this phone for business and I cannot have emails that have typos in them - and it is not that I cannot spell - it is that when you are typing on a virtual keyboard or a small keyboard - you are going to have typos.

If Motorola thinks that this phone is a toy, then perhaps they should not be charging $500 for it.

The suggestions are not enough - I want a spell check like I had on my blackberry - where it will go through each spelling error right before you send it. And the only thing worse than sending an email with a spelling error is sending one with a word that makes no sense because it was substituted by the Droid.

Get it together people - why can't you make a phone that does it all the right way - I really like the Droid - but it has some MAJOR drawbacks - the weird keyboard layout and and the spell check are huge issues for me.

I suggest you return your phone. Spell check is a software fix perhaps but keyboard layout? If you have a problem with that then this isnt the phone for you

Wow... Rome wasn't built in a day. The Droid does a ton o stuff. Spell check just doesn't seem to be one of them for the time being. We'll just have to see what gets rolled out in the first update. If you're email is that critical you really really need to stick with the Berry. I'm still packing one for work stuff as the notifications / Delivery is just dead on every time.

That being said I believe some of these issues will be resolved rather quickly and others done by 3rd party developers.

Sheesh. Going on 2nd year and the BB Storm still has no way to reboot outside of pulling the battery (Unless you use Quickpull) which is 3rd party developed.

Simply put. See a need. Fill a need. Eitherway it's coming to a droid near you.

Oh and I bet the spell checker here saved my *** a few times in this response :D Enjoy.

We used to do this thing in high school... what was it called?....

...oh... proofreading.

It was awesome, we'd do this before turning in our work and everything... I wonder if it would work before sending an email. :D

Seriously many of us have become reliant on spell checkers. I expect it will come very soon.

The lack of a spell checker can be a deal breaker. I depend on the technology. This is one of the issues that highlight why the Blackberry is so good for professional communications. I tend to spell badly, or I hurry. It is too easy to mess things up. To some, this is no big deal. They are just BS'ing with their drinking buddies.

I find this lack of a spell checker a major deal breaker. I did not notice it was not there until I had to spell a common medical word and I did not know how. I asked my wife who is even worse in spelling.

Maybe Google wants me to speak into the phone, but the privacy issues along with background noise makes that feature more of a toy than a tool.

I am starting to think that Android is coming up short.

I'm sorry guys...but I'm in agreement with the minority here.
My "90's software" blackberry has a real nice option, it checks and suggests words before you send an email (I never use it on texting).

If you want to lose a bid or look like a fool in front of your colleagues...send a misspelled email!

You have to stop thinking about today's generation of the mobile text spelling, like hw r u doin 2nite?

That stuff doesn't fly in the professional world. I am really starting to think of going back to BB. Not ONLY because of the spell check but because Android is not ready for the professional ranks...yet.

I found a solution. Download the Outlook app and sign into your gmail account on it.

You can still use your gmail account, just run it through Outlook. Outlook has a spell check.
