Email takes hours to get to me

I'm using my aol account to get my email because I don't use my gmail. The problem with this is that it doesn't tell me I have an email until several hours after its been sent to me. I've got notifications set up and I've got my program set to check for email every five minutes. I'm using the email app that came with my samsung mesmerize. Is there something I have to do to get the emails when they're sent to me and not five hours later.

Two things to try.

First, you can use a different e-mail app, like K-9 Mail, or MailDroid. I found that a couple of my email addresses didn't work well with the default app, but they work just fine with the two apps listed above.

The other thing to try is to attach your aol account to your gmail account. Gmail will check for messages and deliver them through your gmail account. This can be faster since gmail uses push. You can also set up gmail to keep your aol.com email address, so even if you send message via the gmail app, they can still be from the aol account.

I like the idea of linking my account to gmail....can you walk me through that? I'm going to try to do it myself but I can be amazingly thick when it comes to things like that.

I don't know anything about aol, but you should be able to go into your email account settings on your aol web page and have the email forwarded to whatever your gmail email address is.

On your desktop computer, log into your gmail account. You can then add email accounts that gmail will check. You can set the interval and how gmail handles the account. Any messages that are picked up will be pushed to your device.
