Email UI Questions

I'm currently a Blackberry user and, at the end of the day, my phone is primarily an email device (though I have bigger dreams for Android!). Two UI questions from my failed trial with an EVO running 2.1...

1) Subfolder UI. When I tried Android 2.1 on the EVO, my subfolders were all "exploded" out. That is, the UI did not offer "expand/collapse" of subfolders. This made my list of folders incredibly long and frustrating to scroll through, not to mention confusing when subfolders had the same name (not a problem if they can collapse into their parent folder, providing context). Does 2.2 fix this problem by providing expand/collapse?

2) Moving email into folders. On the EVO with 2.1, I could only do this by opening the actual email and then selecting the move option. There was no quick way to move (multiple) items from my Inbox into a folder, nor did it seem to "guess" appropriate folders like my Blackberry does. Has this been fixed in 2.1? Also, can I one-click delete items from my Inbox that I obviously don't need to read, without opening the email?

Any insight into whether these have been fixed in 2.2 or with some other solution would be much appreciated!

thanks,
joel

I don't have any answers for you, but I will +1 on wanting to know how to bulk delete or bulk "mark as read" in my pop3 email accounts.

As for individual mark as read/delete, if you press and hold on the message, a menu will pop up with what you need. So that can be done without having to open up the message.

Now I will say this - having come from a AT&T BB Bold 9000 > Verizon WinMo HTC Touch Pro 2 > T-Mobile WinMo HTC HD2 > then testing both the Samsung Galaxy S phones (TMO Vibrant, AT&T Captivate), this EVO 4G is absolutely the BEST phone I have ever owned! And except for getting used to Android, and for you the HTC Sense UI, I will never look back at any BB again. Give it time, and it will grow on you as you learn it. And as for the email, the HTC Sense mail is the best around, bar none. It was the major reason I dumped the Galaxy S phones! All other Android based mail programs are the worst I have ever seen, and only HTC seems to have a grasp (as well as a program already on the EVO) on synching with Outlook.

HTC Mail application wasn't great imo.

Are you talking about your exchange account?
Do you have a gmail account? Use the GMail app.
Do you have a Yahoo account? Use the Yahoo Mail app. Both are much better than the regular mail account and things like moving e-mails around and whatnot are much easier.

Yes, I'm really most concerned about Exchange as that's my work email (also, I'm guessing it's a safe bet that Android handles GMail well!)

thanks,
joel

BTW, Kedar, is there another free mail application that works with Exchange that I should use instead to address these UI problems?

thanks,
