Emails not automatically deleting

I have had my email set up the following way for years. My android leaves email on the server, my pc in outlook 2010 is set to delete emails from server when downloaded.

Suddenly the inbox is staying full on the android Samsung galaxy a5.

The Android downloads the emails and keeps them locally, so whatever the PC does has no effect on the Android. It should never have worked any differently, unless you changed the setting in the Android from POP3 to IMAP.

I used to find if I deleted them say 50 emails on the phone when away from home then shortly afterwards it downloaded them.

So how do I get it to only display in the inbox what is on the server and not old emails.

On your phone, check the account settings.
You want the communication protocol to be IMAP not POP3.

Which email app are you using on your phone?
