Emails with photo attachments won't send, stuck in Outbox

I'm having this problem fairly frequently when using the Gmail app. My emails will sit in the Outbox forever with the "Sending..." status next to them. It only happens when I'm sending photos as attachments. It happens regardless of whether I'm connected to WiFi, 4G or 3G. It is not an issue of simple slow sending speed... sometimes the emails will sit in the outbox for hours before magically sending. Refreshing the Outbox or re-tapping "Send" does nothing.

Sometimes switching the phone to airplane mode and back again helps. Sometimes force closing the Gmail app and reopening helps. Sometimes I just can't get the damned thing to send no matter what.

What gives!!??

Yup same here and have not found a fix for it i am running ACS 1.1.0 Rom but this happens with all the roms and stock rom i have tried...

If i need it to work right away i have to delete the sending mail and resend it this works most of the time...

DId anyone find a fix? Just got the Galaxy S II and have the same problem. Thought the photos were too big, but that's not it b/c I just tried a pic with smaller rez that I sent from old phone 2 days ago with no problem. A couple emails went through but arrived with no attachment! Help!

Had the same problem and switched to K-9 mail and have not had a problem since. This program also seems MUCH faster.

turn off your wi-fi. I had same issue with my Samsung Epic 4g. Now have Samsung Galaxy II and in both cases, when I turn off the wi-fi and let it send through the Sprint 3g network it works just fine. I guess its picky like that.

I just learned this the HARD way. I made a 30 second video and emailed it from home (via Wifi)...
Guess what? It never even tried to send it over WiFi... instead, it sat in the outbox and racked up 1.4GB of data in small chunks every time I left a WiFi zone over the course of a week until I hit a warning limit from AT&T.

I finally figured out what was going on and deleted it from the outbox... I really hate this! and who is to blame... Samsung? or AT&T.... How are we to know what features of which programs can and can not support WiFi?

Did you ever figure it out? I've tried turning wifi off, switching to airplane mode, resizing, sending through the mail and gmail apps, nothing works. I really liked this phone at first, but it's starting to get all buggy on me now.

if you have sprint, update your prl 2x and profile 2x. then power off the phone and leave it off for 2 mins. this allows full disconnection from the towers. then turn the phone back on. wait 1 min after phone is totally powered on. then try it. sometimes there is a "connection glitch" between the phone and the tower.

I've had this problem since day 1 with my Epic 4G almost two years ago.. various upgrades/patches over the years fixed the issue for me for the most part.. Although I did still experience it once of twice over the past few months.. It's disappointing to hear the above poster that he gets the same issue with his Galaxy S II.

This is considered basic functionality of a smart phone.. Google/Samsung really dropped the ball.

power cycle the phone. power cycle the phone. power cycle the phone.

Sorry if I'm a bit slow but I don't understand what power cycle the phone means or how to do it. I've had photos stuck in my outbox for nearly 4 hours now (Google Nexus 4) and it still says sending. I'm using a wifi connection at home but still no joy.

Is there any solution for this?
I have been on the phone with Verizon for days. They have no idea why all emails with photos just sit in the Outbox forever.
I need a solution for this. There has to be a way to get photos taken with a Samsung 5S off the phone and delivered to someone without texting each photo individually from the text message ap to an email address.
This phone is useless to me without the ability to email photos.
I wonder if they do product testing anymore, because there is no product that works any more, they just release junk and figure youll get so frustrated that youll just adjust your life and business to the defects in your tech.

There is no solution. After wasting a full week of my life investigating this I discovered that there is no easy way to get photos off of a Samsung S5.
I need to be able to take multiple photos and send them to an email. Does anyone have any tricks to do this???????
You can take them with the absolute minimum resoution, you still cant send more than one photo at a time. So that is not an answer. Is this device simply a piece of garbage that has no use other than looking at shiny pictures?

I also thought maybe I could connect the phone by bluetooth to the computer and move the files manually but I should have guessed someone would have worked hard to prevent you from being able to do that. Not an option! hahahahahaha! So the answer is that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is a totally self contained device that cannot be used with other computer systems or to share or create information. In other words, it is less functional than an old flip phone from the 90s

I was having the same issue with my new Galaxy S5 (from AT&T. I'm coming from an iPhone 4, so I'm still learning). My email with attached photos was sitting in the outbox forever.
My workaround was to use Yahoo Mail instead of Gmail.
This might or might not be a solution for every body, but for me it worked and I hope it helps some body else.

Peace,
-Ivan

With my nexus 4 the problem is solved by connecting the phone to a charger. Works every time for photo attachments. They can take several minutes to clear the outbox with a slow 2G connection.

Thank you for the suggesting to use Yahoo Mail instead. I had a Yahoo account that I only use for Fantasy Football. I used that to send the pictures and they sent immediately (to my Gmail account!). What was really interesting was that when I sent from my Yahoo account, my Gmail account finally sent the pictures, too, after 2 hours of "sending...".

Turning off wi-fi worked for me.

Seriously, Android, how is this issue still around in 2014? It's not like emailing a photo is an edge case...
