How can I send a view emoji on Android 4.2 without rooting or using an extra app?

Go into your settings, then language and input. Hit the check box next to the input for emoji support. Now when you are typing a message, pull down your notifications and switch your keyboard to the emoji keyboard.

Thanks, I've done that one, is there anything more direct? As it stands now we have to memorize a bunch of words.
