Supposedly, all new Samsung devices coming out will have encrypted bootloaders (including the Charge)... this might be the deal killer for me. I will give the charge this week to drop to check it out but I am thinking of just going with the Thunderbolt. I've also reached out to my Samsung contact to confirm the locked bootloader, hopefully I will get a reply today.

Is the locked bootloader a deal killer for anyone else? We all know how snappy Samsung is with their updates.

Ooooh, that is NOT good news !!!:(

.

I was deffinetly considering this phone if it dropped this week, and gave people time to give it a good going over before I upgrade next week. But if its got a locked bootloader I don't really see the point based on what I've heard about Samsung's updates.

Dumb newbie question here. Taking from context: encryted bootloader means you can't root the phone?

Correct. If it is rootable, it will take a lot longer for them to find the exploit. I was hyped about this phone, but today I ordered my Thunderbolt. Should be here on Friday. Can't wait to root it.

Couldn't wait huh....well at least you got 14 days to see how the batt is...hopefully the charge will be here by then...I just had a look at it again for the second time, and stayed for maybe a solid hour in the store lol, and it looks like a decent phone.

I be a Samsung fanboy all the way tho.

Got the 2750 extended battery. Dont mind the size since I have the 2150 and 3500 for my Incredible. Couldn't pass up the Thunderbolt since I got it for $250 on a 1 year with the free extended battery.

Guess its good that I have 3 more upgrades this year.

Its possible there is some lockdown going on. I hacked on a Stealth (now Droid Charge) kernel for a friend, to enable ADB root, and the phone REFUSED to boot.

This is not good news. Do you know if any of the guys who dev are getting one. And do you know if they are still using rfs and the same BML setup

Ahh crap, that is not good. I guess I won't get it on release day and wait a bit to see this pan out. Definitely a deal breaker :(

im not to worried, this is samsung after all im pretty sure if these guys can get around it on the bolt they can get around it on the Charge

I guess what dx said, shouldn't be too worried. The tb has some protection features, and the moto phones are notorious for lockdown stuff and they all are exploited.
Plus we do have a couple weeks to return it.
