Endoding DVD to play on the Captivate AND TV

Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody had a recommended program and/or settings for encoding a DVD to play on the Captivate and on a TV via the headphone jack video out cable. I know that the video out is limited to non-HD quality (480i?) but I would like it to look as good as possible on the TV as well as the Captivate itself. Any thoughts or help here is much appreciated.

I have personally encoded my entire DVD collection (around 1,000 DVDs) using DVDFab.
DVDFab DVD converter software, converts DVD to any video & audio formats with fast speed and high quality.

It is very easy to use, has tons of options, and if your rig is fast, it can do a two pass h.264 or xvid encoded rip in about 20min. Now supports CUDA as well to accelerate the process via your GPU.

I tyipically encode with the following settings:
Codec: Xvid or H.264
Bit Rate: 1300 kbps
Audio: AC3 5.1ch

The great thing is, all of my ripped videos play perfectly using Samsung's built in Video player. Couldn't be happier with DVDFab... or my Captivate.

This is awesome thanks.

Glad I could help.

All of my movies retain uncompressed 5.1 sourround sound (AC3), and I have to re-encode them to work on my Zune HD. Not so with the captivate. Its really nice not having to re-encode my DVD rips. Plus the Samsung video player actually simulates 5.1 sourround sound when wearing headphones. Love it.

If you are looking for a free solition, try Handbrake. It works Ok, but doesn't give you near as many options as DVDFab.

Hammy i tried handbreak but it made the file way too big. it was over 2.4gb. can you tell me what setting you use? thanks for the help.
