Ok so I have always been an iPhone person. Yeah I know... Boo hiss whatever. Imessage was a huge perk and I was told it was something the note 8 had (obviously not "iMessage" but the typing notification and read receipts with other Samsung users.) Well am I just stupid or was I lied to because I can't seem to find the option anywhere to turn that on? I'm a bit irritated. My friend said her old Samsung used to do it. Ive been googling and can't seem to be able to find a difinitive answer. There seems to be very little on it and most seems to predate 2014? I found one site that said it's only a sprint issue.. I called sprint and they said no its carrier wide and an android issue that needs an update. What gives? We both did download the android messaging app which is supposed to show sent/read receipts and show typing notifications and that didn't work either.

Also what is with not being able to access your personal video album on the Facebook app?

I dont know about the other stuff but the Facebook thing is annoying. It's like they use some conglomeration of arbitrary folders on your phone. no way to search no conceivable order.

the advanced messaging works where you can have a read receipt and see a person typing if they happen to have a Samsung 7/edge or higher and have the same carrier as you. Otherwise it won't show if the other person read it or shows their typing if they have a different phone and carrier.

OK, I am thinking that this is a Verizon thing, but you may be able to find it on the Play Store. It is called Message Plus and since it is a Verizon thing, I am betting that only works with other Verizon customers, but it gives you delivered, received, read and typing statuses and it does work across platforms (from Android to iOS.) I am a long time Verizon customer, so I don't know if it will even work on a non-Verizon device, but it never hurts to try.

You can try other apps but the short answer is there is nothing on Android at the moment that works the same as imessage. That's the one thing I miss with the Android ecosystem.

What pushed me over to Android was the lack of Apple's file directory management by the user, independent of iTunes.

It works with Android phones on the same network. Anyone on Verizon that has Android shows me that it was read. You have to be on the same network and have a compatible phone.

I use the Samsung messaging on Sprint & have activated the enhanced features. When I talk to someone also on Sprint, using Samsung's msngr, I see the "delivered, read & Typing" msgs. So I'm thinking it doesn't work between different phone providers?...That's silly,it should.

I'm on Verizon and also use Message+ from Verizon. I get notices that my wife and daughter are typing (they use iMessage on their iPhones). I also get notices that messages are "sending", "sent", and "delivered". So it's not limited to between Samsung devices.

I have never cared for getting read receipts, I'm not that controlling.
As for seeing the other party typing, that was cool, for about 20 minutes.

Android really needs to get on the ball and create something on the lines of iMessage. Smh
Hangouts never really took off. Mostly because they didn't ditch Android Messenger for it and then made Allo which is primarily online. Allo would be nice if it actually used your number.

Yes, the Facebook app for Android is absolutely horrid. Unfortunately as a former iPhone user you'll quickly notice the difference in app quality/polish. Sure Android may have a variety of apps from lesser known developers that can do great things, but the major social media apps are just better designed on iOS. I use both. I picked up an iPhone X today. The two apps that will never let me break away from iOS completely are iMessage and Tweetbot. Unfortunately they are both iOS exclusives that are unmatched on Android.

What does Tweetbot do?

Honestly those Facebook Android devs are crazy. Before the Facebook app opened your gallery app and chose pictures and videos from there. Now they implemented their own broken camera roll. Why change something that worked?
