I'm running KitKat 4.4.2 on my Nexus 7 (2013). I usually have no huge battery problems, but for the last two nights the battery has dropped about 40 points overnight, with wi-fi off. Last night, when I went to bed, the battery reading was at about 48%. I didn't charge it, since there had been advice on this forum to wait until it was under 40% before charging. This morning, the battery was at 4%! (There had been a dramatic drop as well the night before, but I don't recall the figures.)
I have no idea why this is happening. I haven't added any programs in the last few days, I haven't left the wi-fi on overnight. According to the battery stats this morning, the biggest user of the battery is Google Play Books, which surprises me. Yes, I've been reading a book on Google Play Books, but I wouldn't have thought that it would drain so much battery--it hasn't done so in the past. Also, I certainly didn't read the book in my sleep, so why should the battery have dropped from 48% to 4% overnight? (Hmmm...I see that Google Play Books was one of several apps that updated recently--possibly it did so on June 2, which might point to a disastrous update, but I'm not sure.) There are several apps asking to be updated--one of these updates might be to correct a bad recent update, I have no idea.
Anyway, I'm including a screenshot of the battery usage and am hoping some people more experienced with these matters than I am can help me identify the cause of this dramatic overnight battery drop and suggest how to stop it from continuing.
Thanks in advance for your help.
