So now that all of us have froyo and the galaxy s is getting gingerbread do you guys or girls think that gingerbread will come to the other galaxy s line of phones.

Don't get me wrong I'm very happy with foryo on the epic and if sammy keeps it updated I could see myself with this phone for the next 2 years as long as it holds up hardware wise.

I dont mind the Epic at all :)
I've rooted and flashed the SRF ROM overclocked to 1.2 and using the SPB Shell 3D Launcher and I love this phone! now my question is do I really need the hardware keyboard? Havent used it much coming from an EVO so not sure if its required...Maybe if the Nexus 4G comes out before my 30 day window is up I may give that a try? its almost the same internals right? :p

Who knows, maybe the whole relationship between Google and Samsung via the Galaxy S will be a good thing for other Sammy phones after all...

Also, CyanogenMod 7 (based on Gingerbread) is currently in the works for the Epic. It's currently still in alpha.

Sadly, I have a feeling that if we ever get true Gingerbread it'll likely come from Samsung. The list of things that don't work in that Alpha is longer than the list of things that do, and with only 3 devs working on it part time, I don't see CM getting a stable release out any faster than Sammy.

truth. wondering if I really use my keyboard enough not to get the Nexus S 4G when it comes out lol

Yeah I have mixed hopes about that ROM, it seemed to be moving very fast during the first week or so, but I haven't seen any real updates on it lately.

Perhaps Gingerbread hitting the European Galaxy S phones will give some help to the Cyanogenmod guys. The hardware is pretty similar, right?

If you want reliable updates- get a Nexus S if you can. Samsung in the US market I think is VERY different than overseas. Whether it's a carrier related issues (Think we have it bad- check out the Fascinate STILL waiting for 2.2) or what who knows- but the fact that Nexus S and Galaxy 2 a large selling point is an updated OS. We were promised 2.2- nothing more.

I would love to say they owe it to us - but it's complicated. Heck- I still feel the epic in general still has a variety of bugs that could fall into the class action category of failing to deliver a working product- but that will never fly.

Samsung makes great hardware- but their software/programming is SERIOUSLY lacking in testing and critical judgment (RFS vs. EXT4 and the CIQ issues) departments.

If I was able to somehow exchange for a Nexus S without incurring great cost- I would- I'd say the same for ANY OEM however- they're all varying levels of bad IMHO.

Where is Gingerbread?

I just thought it would be fun to be impatient, petulant and impractical.

Now where the #$@%& is Gingerbread??

Please thank me. I am certain you found this helpful.

I really believe the closest were going to get to Gingerbread anytime soon is CyanogenMod 7. Seeing how Sprint/Sammy have basically bombed on Froyo I don't see them doing any better if they attempt Gingerbread for an official OS on the Epic.

Not that the Epic isn't capable of it, its just Sprint/Sammy just doesn't seem to have a real interest in working out the bugs. Its only taken a few weeks and the devs have really done an excellent job cleaning up the mess that Sprint/Sammy left behind. They haven't stopped either, the same dev that fixed the keyboard lag/camera FC's and aided in many other things is now working on resolving GPS issues still lingering with Froyo and he hasn't made his "punch list" public be he has stated his work is not done by any means fixing what Sprint/Sammy call an "official" build.

Just a thought too... Notice how there was a 1 month period between EB13 and EC05. Only a week or so into EB13 we had the keyboard lag/camera FC fix in place. Interesting how Sprint/Sammy didn't catch this at release or testing but amazingly at least the Camera FC fix made its way into EC05, why? Don't kid yourself if you really believe they fixed it on their own.. I'm sure Sprint/Sammy's people took a look at what the devs did to fix this and incorporated it into EC05.

BTW, the persons name is " mkasick " at XDA developers. If you have a minute stop in and throw him a thanks for all the work he has done and continues to still do. Please don't forget the other great devs that have contributed many patches/fixes along with mkasick to improve our experience, on the custom ROM scene anyways.

Some may not care but do consider this, he does this for us and free of charge and is unpaid for his work but yet Sprint/Sammy pays for people to give us these bug filled "official" builds. Really says something doesn't it?

Official GB on the Epic... I really wish it was true but I just can't see it given their track record with Froyo so far to this point.
To some Froyo maybe fine the way it is, to many others its not acceptable.

Okay thats it, I'm off my soap box.. Had to make my point.

You have my exact set-up. This thing hasn't crashed in days. It's fast. I've had virtually no problems with SFR since installing it (my Words with Friends doesn't work, but I think I can manage without it).

If you're talking about the full-page text ads in Words that makes it impossible to click anything, you can download AdFree and hit Revert and it'll work.

I would like to see Sprint / Samsung get us the Gingerbread update ASAP = we waited a long time for Froyo = we should be placed on "fast track" for Gingerbread = that's my thinking = just saying
