Hello all,

Came to the best place for advice.

Is it possible to erase/remove/undo a firmware update on a Sony Bravia Android television?

My television model is KD-55XE8505 and the new firmware/software version is PKG6.6555.0257EUA

The reason why I would like to know is that since the update, basically nothing works as it did before on the browser. I tried to download only 2 other browsers I could find in the Google app shop (puffin and Webtv) and they were useless (no wonder they only have 2 star ratings). I cannot find out how to improve the browser - which used to be Opera and is now got a Vewd logo - to be able to let me log in to Youtube on it like before - I don't like the Youtube app.

Does anyone have any advice they could share, on how to update the browser, or install another, or remove the firmware update to the previous version, whatever it was, as before the update, everything worked perfectly.

Thank you for your time :)

Oh, I forgot to mention - I have tried using the reset feature on the television with no luck and also tried something called a hard reset and a forced factory reset and neither of these options worked to remove the firmware.

Generally speaking, you can't roll back firmware. Even if you could, it would require flashing the original ROM (not something everyone is able to do or has access to), and it would then try to update itself without other interventions that are not readily available. The fact that this is a TV makes it less likely such actions are possible. Most third party Android development like you need (to be able to block updates) is focused on phones. The XDA Forums has a section for Sony Android TV's. That would be your best place to ask. This site is focused more on general info, and theirs is focused more on the developmental side of things.

There are 2 ways to update ie OTA or via USB. The latest firmware is on Sony's website. A Google search will help you find older firmware. One thing I'm not sure of is whether you can roll back.
