Hi everyone, so I have been a Blackberry user for the past 2 years or so and I have been considering switching to android now that Verizon is getting android phones. I am using a storm right now and I am getting a little bored of it, and Blackberry os all together. My question is, since verizon seems to be offering early upgrades for blackberry users (I know they say its only for the Storm 2 and Droid but i have some connections and can get it done for the Eris), Should I go for an Eris?, or since rumors started popping up about the Passion, should I wait it out for that?

-Thanks

depends, my eris was $49. if money isnt your issue i would say take the rest you`ll get the passion at a nice price.
i used my moms upgrade so this is a nice phone that should last me the six months til my upgrade :)
if u do the sms fix (google it) your battery will last a full day+ like mine :)

Yeah money is not much of a problem and if anything my dads got a 100 ne2 credit. How is the Eris overall, besides the battery life?

The Eris is cool. Not great but its a solid phone. If you really want a good Android phone wait for the Passion/ Snapdragon/kungfu panda or whatever its gonna end up being called. HTC does smartphones better regardless of the OS and the "Passion" will have all the power of the Droid and the finesse of HTC.

It depends on what you want, really.

The Passion/Dragon will likely be released in December (after all the Droid buyers' 30-day window has passed). It will essentially be a no-kyeboard version of the Droid. Larger body, larger screen, higher resolution, Android 2.0. The question is whether or not it will have the HTC Sense UI.

The Passion/Dragon and Eris target two different markets, they won't compete with each other. So really, it depends on what *you* want. I saw the Eris in person today, it was nice and small (smaller than the iPhone, mind you - same resolution, of course) which I prefer. For me, personally, the only things I need to know are: 1) Will the Passion be black (instead of silver, like the leaked pics show) 2) Will the Passion have SenseUI 3) Exactly how big/heavy is the Passion 4) Will the Eris get an Android 2.0 update.

So for me to make my decision I need to wait until the Eris Android 2.0 update is really really official or Passion comes out and is what I want.

Yea this is exactly where I am at now too, shortly after I made this post I went by a Verizon store to check out the Droid and the Eris and I immediately fell in love with the Eris. But I figure now that I'm better off waiting until around the xmas season to compare the 2, and to see what new holiday deals Verizon rolls out for the phones. I basically know nothing about android right now but I really like senseUI and if the passion is not going to have it then it's the Eris for me.

Antioch hit the nail on the head. The Eris is aimed at beginner to intermediate smartphone users who what something small and functional for light work and play use. The Droid and Passion/Dragon/Foo foo kitty chow are aimed at the heavy business users and the heavy phone users who really get into all media and customizing of phones. Both are great for the average user but it really comes down to which one will be best for you in the end.

I have owned both the Droid and the Eris. I love the power of the Droid. But I think Sense is soooooo nice. It looks and feels so much better. The virtual keyboards nicer and all around it seemed to be a better user experience. I am probably going to take my Eris back and wait for the Dragon to come out because I miss power of the Droid but dont want to sacrfice the UI and get the Droid... Also the Droid is bulky and ALL the keyboard are a pain in the @$$ to use!

Yea, besides the senseUI, my biggest dislike of the droid was the keyboard, and the slide factor felt awkward. I have another question regarding android in general and since you guys have been so helpful maybe you could let me know what the deal is with ringtones and wall papers. Its not exactly a selling point for me but it would be nice to have custom wall papers, and ring tones for different functions like I have on my BB ... is that possible with android?(mostly ringtones, its nice to know what different messages come in so i know what to ignore/put off)

Im still working on that myself... well the wallpapers that is. I set all my ringtones for my phone but I havent found any good wallpapers actually on the phone. Thats one thing i definitely miss about teh Crackberry site. They had all that multimedia stuff on their page for each phone. But Im going to comb the net tonite for some stuff. I do know that the HTC does a better job with making pics from your gallery wallpapers than the Droid does. The Droid was terrible with that kinda stuff.
