I get this message everytime I try to update an app or download a new one on Google Play. What can I do to fix this?

Have you tried clearing data for google play application and then logging back in

Like many people on this thread I too had the same error. I just fixed my error today and I will list what i did step by step in hopes that it will help someone.

1: download this update com.android.vending-4.1.6.apk | by Android Police for Generic Device
2: go to your Application Manager, Clear Cache for Google Play, then Clear Data, then Uninstall Updates for Google Play
3: clear cache for Google Play Services, then Clear Data
4: install downloaded Google Play apk.
5: open and sign in but dont attempt to download anything yet.
6: turn phone completely off. Reboot then see if you can connect.

I'm not saying this will work for everyone. I simply documented the steps i took to get mine to work. I hope this helps.

Try removing your Gmail account and then re-adding it.

after some research, the 3rd link on google search.. a youtbue video.. worked for me, tried everything else repeadedly... with no luck

tried this: How to Fix " Error retrieving information from server [RPC S-3] " - YouTube and now all the updates i've missed since my phone was last in the USA (over a year) are now all downloading... YAY!!!.. stuff works.
Note: my error message was "Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-3]" and this was the first link google gave me was this thread
