Essential PH-1 or OnePlus 5T?

I plan to sell my V20 because I'm sick of LG's laggy software. Would you recommend the Essential Phone, or the 5T?
I feel like the 5T is a better device, with the bigger screen, alert slider, oxygen OS, etc
But OnePlus is kinda a sketchy company and with all their benchmark cheating and backdoors.
I can get a used essential for about 360ish bucks, and the 5T is about 450ish
Thanks!

I'd go with the PH-1. It has the better overall design, higher resolution screen, some water resistance (IP54) and faster security patches. The screen is only 5% smaller on the Essential but the phone is quite a bit more compact than the 5T. Don't think I'd buy another OnePlus due to issues with customer service and trustworthiness. Essential customer service has been great. They answer questions within a few hours and sent me a new charger and cable when the original stopped fast charging. OnePlus wouldn't even admit that the OP5 had a screen issue. I've been running custom ROM on my 3T to avoid tracking from OnePlus.

The OnePlus phones are never on my radar.
They aren't Verizon compatible, so that's a fail.
On the other hand, I really like my Essential. Got rid of my LG G6 for the Essential.

I too have debated between both... At the end of the day, I'd pick the OnePlus 5T. Bigger screen if that's what you're into; interesting OS; and alert slider. Essential has a lot of good stuff too but I personally prefer the 5T.

How has the battery life been on the Essential? (specifically on ATT but other networks too)
Every phone I've ever had has always had bad battery life, but I've begun to blame att for that.
Also do you find the software to be smooth or does it stutter and lag when doing multiple things, like Google Maps and Spotify for example

My battery has been long lasting, very impressed with it. I have not had an stutter or lag on mine. The camera updates they keep pushing out have helped it a lot.

I've fallen for two OnePlus phones - both abandoned in less than two years. OnePlus is not to be trusted. I am very pleased so far with my PH-1. Very fast security updates (Feb 2018) and Oreo 8.1 which is now available over-the-air in beta. Essential has also sent out a bunch of updates to the overly bad-mouthed camera.

I'd definitely go with the Essential, OnePlus has had too many security issues and fails, not just in the phone, including the backdoor that can be used to access your data, but also with their payment system being hacked.

I've loved my Essential, though I only got mine in November (when the worst of the issues were ironed out). It only seems to get better, with each new update.

The main reason I sent back the Essential phone was because of the poor service here in Manhattan. Where I would normally have full service with Samsung and Pixel I'd be lucky to even get 1 bar with the Essential phone on TMobile. Otherwise it was a great device at the perfect size

The PH-1 is now awesome since the updates have been released. It works with any carrier. If a certain carrier stinks in your city, you can switch carriers. I swtched from MetroPCS/T-mobile to AT&T prepaid. I get better service nw in Dallas.
Buy from an American company- even if the phone might be made in Asia or where-ever. Where do they assemble the PH-1? Does anyone know?

Amazon has the Essential on sale for $399 at this moment.

Get a case for it asap. The glass does break if it drops at an angle where the glass edge takes the impact first without a case!

Here is your answer , on the Box it says made in China. As for who makes the phone I'm pretty sure it is Foxconn

I never had with my OnePlus in the past, I love it actually and said it before if I could only pick one, OnePlus would be it.

The price I paid for my Essential at less than $400 CAN how can I go against it.

Ask me when OnePlus 6 and Essential 2 comes out. Unless Essential drops the price you know my pick. Even if both are priced at $700 CAN.
