Okay, so I'm kind of new to the whole rooting community/culture. I'm coming over from iOs (I know, I know. I finally saw the light) and this whole root/rom thing seems nebulous to me. What would be the best way to root the epic touch 4g??

Hit the rooting sub-forum here and check out the thread that's stickied at the top. That's the easiest and safest root method currently.

Good luck! Learning the ins and outs of customizing and tweaking an Android device can be a lot of fun if you have the aptitude for it and don't mind venturing into the unknown.
